16 oz. can courtesy of my Secret Santa. Pours an opaque brown with a dense, almost creamy, tan head that lasted until the end. Very pleasant aroma with coffee, chocolate, lightly roasted malt, and a whiff of pine all noted. The coffee and chocolate are less noticeable in the flavor and the malt is more dominant. There is also a tobacco flavor that emerges as the beer warms a bit. Moderate hops bitterness at the finish. Medium bodied. Well done.

Pours a hazy brown - darker than most brown ales I have tried. A bit of caramel in the nose. Nice malty taste. Some nuts in the middle and just a bit of citrus in there somewhere. Very smooth and drinkable. Maybe my favorite brown ale.

At first I got caramel and cola aromas. Now I’m getting some more barley wine like smells like plum. Always sweet. Smooth and crisp. Taste is slightly hoppy and slightly bitter on the backside. Some candied sugar as well. Pours a deep brown color with a faint red hue. Almost opaque until you hold it up to the light. The smells are really entertaining but the flavor leaves a little on the table. All in all a good beer though.

16 oz. can, courtesy my brother. Nice ruby brown pour with a medium light beige head. Dark caramel aroma, complemented by piney and spicy hops. Smooth mouthfeel,. medium body and carbonation. Dark roasty flavors dominate, but a healthy dose of hop bitterness provides balance. A very good brown ale, distinctive, with bolder flavors than the usual example.

UPDATED: NOV 6, 2007 16-oz. can. Thanks, Theisti! Now...this is a brown ale, damn. Pours nearly black with a light, sudsy tan head, plenty of rings of sedimentary lace on the way down. Sweet molasses and brown bread nose. Body’s on the high side of medium, active carb, plenty of forward roast and toast right on the attack. Mid-palate takes the roast and ups the ante with a bit of piney/creosote-y hop, and the hop predominates in the finish. Great stuff.

Very dark, almost to the point that it should be called a porter. Dark, smokey tones dominate the flavor and aroma. Color is bloody red, almost black.

Can via trade with brewso, many thanks. Pours deep brown lighter towards the bottom with a thick two finger tan head. The aroma is malty and robust with nice sugary notes. Taste is very rich, full of roasted malt, chocolate, and some sugar. Damn this is a good brown, now if I can try Darkness and the others I’ll be excited.
