3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 arminjewell (2445) - Parker, Colorado, USA - DEC 31, 2009
Pours dark brown with off tan head, aroma is full of coffee and chocolate. The beginning of the taste is surprisingly (and refreshingly) hoppy that leads into a wonderful chocolate, coffee, toffee, caramel blend of sweetness that bitters nicely from the hops at the end. Excellent and the best brown ale I’ve had!

My wife brought back a 16oz can from MN while traveling on business, she’s gone again and should be bringing back a Coffee Bender! Brown pour with a large tan head. Aroma is of hop and oatmeal a little sweet. Flavor is earthy hop, caramel, chocolate, and oatmeal which adds a nice smoothness. A very solid brown ale.

On tap. Poured a dark brown with dark ruby highlights. Nice khaki head. Nutty aroma with a hint of coffee, too. Flavor is creamy with flavors of nuts, oats, and coffee. Has a dry and slightly bitter finish. Very smooth and silky on the palate. Very nice.

Can from my "Secet" Santa Skyview. Thanks Bob! Pours clear dark brown, thick pillowy head, gorgeous lacing. I honestly can’t fathom a brown ale looking better than this. Nose is dark grains, slight spiciness, dark fruits, caramel, a certain "woody" character, so I’m guessing English hops. Flavors are multifaceted and rich, toasty caramel, flinty graphite, nice all-over mouthfeel. A tremendously pleasing beer. I’m only about a quarter through it now, and I’m very much looking forward to the other 3/4 of this one.

Canned Unk
A: Pours dark brown with a transient tan foam that dissipates to nearly nothing leaving scattered foam throughout over the clarified beer. Spotty lace. (4)
S: Bread, cereal, coffee, cocoa, hints of grass. Nice subtle hazelnut tone. A little sweet. Nice. (4)
T: Interesting, nice and bready again but with some dry nutty notes and a little bit of a sharp yeasty character. Finish is long and soily. (4)
M: Thin with hi carb (a little too hi) and a dry finish. Would like a little more body or a little less carb to make this a little more palatable. (3)
O: Nice brown ale, can’t wait to try with some coffee in it. Bet it’s the bees knees. (4)

Dark and malty, this ale will make you feel like a true beer connoisseur. Notes of chocolate, caramel, and vanilla remind you of a tasty dessert. I drank this beer for the first time while ice fishing-- the beer sat on slab of snow and ice, chilling ever so slowly after each sip. Makes you feel like you ate a small meal...in a good way.

UPDATED: SEP 23, 2010 I tried this beer at the Minneapolis airport. Very nice thick head that lasted for awhile. The aroma was roasted malt with chocolate undertones. Nice hop infused rich carmel and chocolate flavor. I would recommend this to anyone. I wish I could find this in Colorado.
