Darker brown black, opaque, slight deep tan head. Smoky, umami sausage, some deeper caramel roasted notes. Light bitterness, big sweet body. Long back of the mouth finish. Medium body, very chewy. Lighter carbonation. Alcohol is very understated. Quite nice. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at Winterfest 2012, pour was thick black with creamy tan head, aroma brought notes of deep dark chocolate, smoke, hints of the oak and a slight vanilla/bourbon note, bits of coffee interspersed as well with some roasted qualities as well. Taste is pretty nice and rich, smooth smoky meat, chocolate and rich caramel mix into some slight oaky vanilla, the bourbon is pretty subtle here, touch of espresso bean as well, finishing fairly roasted, dry. Nice

Sampled at Winterfest 2012. Pour was oily black brown with no noticeable head, but a thin tiny ring. Aroma was smokey peat and hints of wood vanilla and faint chocolate. Taste was malty chocolate and vanilla with some wood and pleanty of smokey peat. Palate was full slick and oily with a dry chalky finish.

Sampled this at Winterfest 2012. Adds a nice bit of complexity and a thickened mouthfeel to Smoke which is already very good.

Notes from FoBAB. Pour is black with a nice brown head. Aroma is large malt, faint bourbon, light wood, and only a touch of smoke. Flavor is wonderful round malt with the vanilla bourbon notes permeating the beer. There is also some light tobacco. The smoke does not really come out until the finish and is subtle but present. THe finish is also lightly sweet. A subtle yet tasty smoke beer. I liked it.

FoBAB 2009. Pours a dark dark brown with smoke colored swirls. Aroma of smokey bourbon. Ash, Ham. Flavor is very smokey and bourbony, tasty, ham and bacon, a bit of alcohol in there too. Smooth mouthfeel but the barrel makes it a bit thin. Another ridiculous brew from Surly here. This beer was like camping.
