Wow, coffee aroma burst out when I popped the can open. Dark brown color reminiscent of coffee (duh). Taste is cold/iced coffee in a big, big way. Is there beer in here? Yep, some malt is in the background, and a little bit of hops. If you love coffee and you love beer, you have to try this one for the experience. I feel like I just drank a cup of coffee, not a 16 oz can of beer. Of the "unique and unusual" beers I’ve tried, this one is one of the best.

Can: Thanks, Corey! Pours like a cup of medium strength coffee, hold the cream, topped with an ecru layer of froth that would be fit for a latte. Aroma is full-force cold pressed coffee... Smells like an iced coffee with cream & sugar, seriously. Lightly sweet mocha notes underneath. Taste is (not surprisingly) outright coffee, coffee, coffee. Iced coffee. But it’s beer. More roastiness on the palate than expected, but still a nice, milky sweetness undercurrent flowing through. Touch of astringent roast in the finish. The aftertaste leaves your mouth feeling like you just finished a cup of coffee. No shit. Very tasty beer for the coffee lovers (like me) in the world. Could use a little more body, perhaps.

Torréfaction intense, malts rôtis, noisettes grillés et moka dans une brown ale axé sur le café noir.

Pours a deep dark brown with minimal head. Just a small wispy ring around the glass. Big coffee flavor and aroma with some chocolate, cream, and cola notes. Smooth mouthfeel that is a little thin. Light body with low carbonation. Refreshing and delicious.

Can thanks to the other Ben. Serious coffee beer here. That’s one of the few styles I miss out in Denver. No one I know packages a coffee beer here that is as rich and genuine as Surly (or Bells or Terrapin or Founders). Deep, true whole bean coffee tantilizes my nose with a hint of sweet malts. Palate is medium. Real, rich coffee bean flavor to back up the aroma highlights the sweetish bready malts. Excellent beer.

Can (canned 1/6/14) poured into a nonic pint glass. Pours a dark brown almost black color with half an inch of light tan head. Big coffee on the aroma, bits of dark chocolate. Tasting notes of big roasty and burnt coffee, dark chocolate, caramel. Very coffee forward on the aroma and taste, coffee flavors dominate. Thin mouthfeel. Medium carbonation and body with a semi-dry finish. Pretty easy drinker for coffee lovers.

Another bravo to Surly for this delicious coffee beer. The aroma is as rich as the flavor in this amazingly tasteful beer. Rich foamy head with staying power. Amazing!
