The Dan Journal #494. Tasted 1/12/12. 16oz Can. Pours pitch and opaque with a thick cream colored head. Aromas of fudge brownies and coffee. Medium to full bodied with a huge malt bill. Rich and roasted with both sweet and tart flavors mixed in with the solid coffee character. Sticky finish with dark chocolate and fudge notes. Nice and solid drinking.

Can. Wow, I never thought I’d find a beer that would not only be good with doughnuts, but would actually be even BETTER with doughnuts! Pours a medium ruddy brown with nice medium creamy off-white white head (almost like Guinness with the widget), excellent lacing. Nose is almost all freshly brewed coffee with a hint of malt hiding in there. Mouth is straight up coffee forward (light roast) with a gradual appearance of the brown-ale heartiness of the Bender coming through. Had a lot of coffee stouts, and a few other coffee beers, but nothing anything like this. If they sold it in Seattle, no one would bother with Starbucks or Georgetown brewing anymore... they could kill two birds with one stone with this. Now to more pressing issues... what to eat with this? Custard, maple-glazed, old fashioned glazed, or an apple fritter?

Clear deep brown pour with a thin off white to khaki head ... aroma is of fresh coffee grinds ... you don’t get much more coffee in an aroma like this beer wow also has roast malts, light chocolate and vanilla .... taste is of roasted and chocolate malts, vanilla with a nice iced coffee feel and a bitter hoppy bite on the backend ... finish is bitter and dry .... mouthfeel is a little oily and slightly creamy ... body is medium .... abv hidden well .... nice stuff

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Reddish mahogany brown in color... Aroma is intensely cold brewed coffee... Minimal carbonation, no head... Flavor is black coffee, with notes of roasted malts, chocolate... More like coffee with beer added... Interesting and enjoyable

Big time coffee aroma. Good flavor, smooth, rich, chocolately, great coffee flavor without overwhelming the tastebuds. Very drinkable.

A- pours a clear mahogany and deep cola brown with a solid two fingers of lightly tan creamy head. Great lacing. S- coffee, coffee and coffee - but pre-packaged motel room coffee. Chalk, dirt, graham cracker pie crust, and stale oats. Some chocolate, light toffee and vegetal notes. M- light to medium oily body with a bitter light palate. Decent carbonation. T- coffee grounds, chalk and earth up front. Middle reveals strong hop notes of grass and soap that linger the rest of the way through. Root vegetable. Cheap Halloween chocolate and NutraSweet complete a lifeless mid palate. Ending is more grassy hops and chocolate with the sensation of sucking on zinc and wood.

Black pour with an off white head. Lacing present. Strong coffee aroma. Creamy mouth full of chocolate & coffee. This is pretty much like drinking a slightly sweet cup of coffee.

Really thought I had rated this! Pours oaky brown, immense 3 finger off-white head. Nose is cold pressed coffee and malted oats. Nice big mouthfeel, loads of coffee acidity and bitterness. Goes down easy and is the most drinkable coffee beer I’ve ever had.

Can bought at Mikkeller & Friends july 2013. Dark brown body, huge light brown head. Aroma is (surprisingly!) coffee, cocoa, pale malt. Nice bitter ice coffee taste with a pleasant sweet caramel tone, nutty brown finish. I like the fact that they haven’t oversweeten this beer, as one might suspect from the iced coffee themed can
