16 oz. Can, Thanks to Tripplebrew. Slightly hazy gold in a snifter, steady carbonation gives a ½ head that’s stays until the last sip. A traditional like taste for a saison. Peppery, Belgian like yeast, with a grassy floral hop. Light to no bitterness at all. This was my 1st ever Surly beer, I’m really happy I got several more to try! Thanks a ton Tripplebrew!
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 arkurzynski (721) - West Bend, Wisconsin, USA - NOV 5, 2011
Old notes. Hazy mango-colored brew with white head and active carbonation. Light peach, mango, apricot, some citrus lemon and herbal hop notes. Light fruity malt and yeast notes as well as a tiny bit of tart citrus. Minor alcohol. Fresh and springy on the palate. A mild-moderate hop bitterness to the finish.

Canned 06SEP11
A: caramel with three fingers of egg whites whipped atop fall in a few minutes to a solid sheet of the same with cobweb lace. Near excellent clarity. (4)
S: grainy yeast and peppercorns with slightly sweet oats. The belgian yeast dominates. (3.5)
T: Again, yeasty. Classic saison flavors of lemon, pepper, sharp sour yeast flavors. Lasting finish is reminiscent of a slightly underdeveloped apricot. (3.5)
M: medium on full bodied with moderately high carbonation and a dry finish. (3)
O: Not a bad example, but far from the upper echelon. Won’t be going out of my way for this one. (3)

Can @ home. Cloudy orange appearance with a cream colored head. Slightly spicy, belgian yeasty, light tangerine citrusy, bready aroma. A little tangy, light citrusy, bready belgian yeasty, slightly floral, golden malty flavor. I’m not very impressed.

Pours a fairly clear orange/gold with a huge white head. Aroma has black pepper, clove and some sweet yeasty notes. Flavor is spicy with pepper and clove...a bit of a candy sugary sweetness. Mouthfeel is lively...slightly more body than I expected of a saison...and the finish is dry and spicy.

Lightly hazy golden with a big white head, nice retention, light lacing.... peppery aroma, quite spicy, belg yeast, some lightly grassy hops, light fruits... lively, though not to the extent i would expect,
