3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 BlackForestCO (944) - Aurora, Colorado, USA - SEP 16, 2008
UPDATED: MAR 23, 2009 Can from tytoanderso, thanks Ty. Poured a clear, pale golden-orange color with a thick, rocky off-white head that slowly receded to a layer and left some spotty lacing. Nice aroma of soft peach and apricot, just as advertised, as well as a light floral hoppiness with some black pepper, perhaps a hint of coriander, some light yeast and a bit of flaky oats. Lightly spicy, citric entry leads into a soft yeastiness with hints of orange peel, peach, and apricot. A bit of oat comes out on the finish under the lightly dry yeastiness. Not quite as dry as traditional Belgian saisons, but this stuff is definitely drinkable. I could easily turn this into a "session saison" thanks to the can size and how easy it is to drink. Thanks again Ty, nice.

The carbonation in this one actually caused an undercurrent!!! Almost sucked me in. Deep copper color, tightly packed 3-finger white head. Yeasty, peppery, citrusy, yummy!!! This one doesn’t quite have the complex spices that others in the style possess but highly drinkable and it’s in a can!!! THANKS hillfiiiiire, ketchepillar, & crowderm!!!

I have yet to have a beer that is not world class from Surly and this one does not disappoint. A lighter, super drinkable style of saison. Those looking for a saison with slap-you-in-the-face spices might want to look elsewhere. This is by no means a lightweight, though. Amber gold pour with terrific lacing. Plenty of stone fruit aromas and yeasty, bready body.

A great session saison but be careful. Went great with BBQ ribs and potato salad. Sweat, spicy, and delicous. Go Surly.

VERY good aroma, the hops give off a really pleasant scent. Definitely a hint of floral and fruit, but not too much, still smells like a good ale. Not as dark as a lot of american ales but a nice amber. Great flavor without a bitter finish. Refreshing on the pallete. If your in the liquor store looking for an american ale, its is worth trying. Also now comes in cans now so that is convienient.

On tap @ Kuma’s Corner. Pours a hazy orange with an off white head. Nice aroma, little bit of hops, peach, and some yeast. Actually very smooth and easy to drink, I had a couple of them.

Can (Thanks kosko20!) Pours a hazy range color with an off white film of head. This is a beer with a spot on commercial description. The aroma has some very mild apricot, oatmeal notes, and mild residual bready yeastiness. It has a light, fluffy feel, with a soft apricot flavor from the hops. There’s also a softly sweet malt base, with a touch of bread crust/biscuit and a hint of peppery character in the finish. Simple, but an easy drinker, and has a nearly perfect and accurate commercial description.
