Oh great, a fizzy yellow beer in a can, that’s just what the craft beer world needs! CynicAle melds Old World ingredients in a new school style. French malted barley, English oats and Belgian yeast create honey and black pepper flavors. Lively Slovenian hops provide the floral, apricot and peach notes. A careful pour left me with a crystal clear medium amber brew with a thin white head that left quickly. Lots and lots of lace on the way down the glass. Aroma contains some dried fruits and spicy hops. Tastes of bready malt, spicy, peppery, earthy, barnyard funky, quite complex tastes coming through. Great crisp carbonation, medium body, leaves a spicy taste in your mouth. Overall I was surprised by this one. This is not my favorite style of beer, but I rather enjoyed this tasting tonight.

(draught) orange gold with nice white head. Aroma of fruits, spice, floral hops, Belgian esters. Flavor is a bit bready with spice, fruits, a bit of sweetness and floral hops.

Canned on 11/08/10 A- This 16oz can calls for the 16ozs of my Duvel tulip. And so I get a clear, pale gold beer topped with a creamy white head. Little in the way of retention though. I guess the regular Fantome has ruined me for saisons, in all departments. Regardless, this is still a very nice looking glass of beer. S- There is certainly Belgian yeast at play. Its giving off a spicy and fruity aroma of bananas, peaches, melon, and peppercorns. Im absolutely loving the estery banana kinda aromas. Hops are subdued but I think they are responsible for a good portion of the floral aspect of this beers scent. Damn nice aroma. T- The strong estery, fruity and juicy character that makes the nose something to behold thankfully plays a big part in the taste. Lots of over-ripe banana, melon, some peach and a pinch of pepper. Damn this is good. M- Id say this is spot on with the feel too, nearly. It wouldnt hurt for the dry finish to be pushed a little further. The wonderful yeasty spice lingers for just long enough to last between sips. D- This was the last of my Surly cans. I wasnt as excited for it as I was for Coffee Bender and the rest. I guess the middle of January isnt the saison. *rimshot* This turned out to be a stellar beer that I wish I had more of.

Can shared at a recent BA/RB tasting... Poured golden with a white head. Citrus and lemon zest that was endorsed by some dry and spicy yeast tones. Some decent hops and easy drinking, but fairly underwhelming.

16 ounce can thanks to Nate. Pours a clear copper almost orange color with a small white head. The aroma is a rich sweet malt, some floral hops, light fruit. The flavor is mellow and very good; sweet fresh spicy hops, rich fruity malts, dry and champagne-like. Very good, this is one hell of a saison made in Minnesota and drank from a can! Very easy to drink.

Poured into a tulip. Big thanks to OHLRangers and jyounger30 for this one (both included as extra). 4.0 A: Nearly clear light orange color. Big mix of creamy and frothy head with average retention and spotty lacing. 5.0 S: An exceptional smelling saison for sure. Load of spiciness from the start with pepper, clove, and corriander. Hay-like funkiness with subdued peach and apricot notes 3.0 T: Compared to how good the nose is, the taste is rather flat though still pretty good. Still some spiciness going on, but mainly corriander. A lot of the pepper and clove taste isn’t there. Much drier than I expected with a lot of the peachy fruitiness gone. The funky hay is also gone. 4.0 M: Light body with fizzy Belgian carbonation. Soft bitterness on finish. 3.5 D: I heard that there is a lot of variability with this brew. I think I got one of the duller ones. Good, but not great. Serving type: can Reviewed on: 03-31-2010 05:10:25

Pours a slightly hazy peach color, with one finger white head. Smell is very yeasty, funky, with a light fruit sweetness– peaches again? Taste is along the same lines– lots of yeast, plus a bit of pepper and slightly sweet malts. Smooth, crisp, light body; medium carbonation, and dry finish. M: smooth, crisp, light body, mid carbonation, dry finis

500ml can thanks to tbadiuk.
Appearance : Clear golde amber with a small head. Short head retention.
Aroma : Spicy and yeasty. Light banana. Lots of honey.
Taste : Light sweetness. Yeast, spices and honey. Finish yeasty, spicy and rather sweet. Not very dry. Quite a lot of honey too. A bit sticky.
Overall : Very drinkable. Well made. Enjoyable yeast but a bit too much honey for my taste. Not a traditionnal Saison to me. A little bit disapointing. My worse Surly to date.
