COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
From the blackest depths of the brewhouse comes Damien, Child of Darkness. Spawned from the usually discarded remnants of Darkness, Damien is a dry-hopped black ale. Flavors of roasted malt and dark brown sugar suffocated by aromas of tangerine and pine.

Garnet tinted black pour, lacing to the sky. Pine and citrus oil nose. Some bitter chocolate with tree bark and cinnamon like earth spice. Holly. Flavor is built on a rich, juicy black cherry note. Underneath this, the malt is muted and ashy. The hops are resinous but not especially bold. The thinning out fruit flavors are annoying, but there is a pleasant, middling balance here; the high end/low end noisiness of many an example doesn’t define this one. Clean if somewhat thin palate throughout. Finish leaves behind a gamey roast film, and more of that juicy cherry.

Draught at Darkness day.pours dark brown/black with a medium tan head. Aroma has a wonderful fresh hoppy aroma of pine and citrus, floral and tropical. From the aroma the taste is rather surprising, its starts with smooth bready malts and grains mellowing into citrus and a non-offensive bitter pine. Rather light body. Really interesting, nice!

Enjoyed on tap at Jerry's Andersonville in Chicago, IL during a freezing rush hour snow storm waiting for dinner. Appearance is a murky dark brown/black with a thin off white head. Aroma is subtle, not much in a hop profile, someone mentioned the bar floor and I agree. Taste is pretty good, more malty than hoppy, light pine, chocolate and cocoa. It's good, I enjoy it, but Darkness still rules.

On tap at Firkin. Pours black/brown with a brown head. Sweet brown sugar/caramelly malty, with some pine, and some roasty bitterness. Then down in the glass some citrus pokes through as well. Fairly balanced between bitter and sweet from the malts, and medium bodied. Not as hop forward as the best of style -- including their own Blakkr -- but tasty malts with some hoppiness makes this one solid. 14.4

Cask (dry hopped with Glacier) - big creamy head, pitch black color, piney hop aroma and flavor with a good shot or roasted malt backbone, mild citrusy notes too - very good overall ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at Darkness Day. Poured brown black with creamy tan head. Light aroma of smoke and resin. Light carb and med bod. Balanced tasty charred hop taste. I dig.

16 oz. pour, on tap at Buster’s on 28th. Consumed on 11-4-12. Pours a clear, dark brown with an amber hue and a small amount of beige head. Weak but enjoyable, dry and hoppy aroma features coffee with cream scent. Pleasant taste is well balanced, both hoppy and malty: Coffee, caramel, and some citrus elements. Light to medium body. Lively in the palate. Easy to drink. Overall, the beer is nice but not special.

Draft at the Blue Nile. Pours a deep, dark brown color with a tan head and some lacing. Aroma is lightly roasty, some pine hops. Medium on the palate with average carbonation. Flavor is sweet, malty, roasty, some chocolate and coffee, pine hops, with a light bitter finish. Good, but not great.

This does not remind me of a black IPA, but is certainly respectable. Deep chocolate aroma. Medium full body with good hop flavor to counter the porter style malts. Finish is warm and bittersweet. Nice.

Smells like a bar room floor. Taste is light grain, grass & hops. Medium mouth. Some roast. Very easy to drink. Huge mouth.
