COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
From the blackest depths of the brewhouse comes Damien, Child of Darkness. Spawned from the usually discarded remnants of Darkness, Damien is a dry-hopped black ale. Flavors of roasted malt and dark brown sugar suffocated by aromas of tangerine and pine.

Had this at Darkness day, poured a nice dark brown color. Had a nice hoppy/malty flavor, outshined by Darkness though.

This was a great black ale. Not overly hopped like most black ales. This is very drinkable and enjoyable!

On tap, black with an off white head. Aroma of citrus hops with hints of pine, coffee, and dark malta. Taste was decent, nothing really stood out as being dominant in the flavor profile with a bitter hop finish. Good brew overall.

Draught at Darkness day.pours dark brown/black with a medium tan head. Aroma has a wonderful fresh hoppy aroma of pine and citrus, floral and tropical. From the aroma the taste is rather surprising, its starts with smooth bready malts and grains mellowing into citrus and a non-offensive bitter pine. Rather light body. Really interesting, nice!

On tap at brewery. Pours dark brown with a quick soapy kahki head that fades to a thin collar and shows some lacing. Aroma is roasted malt and gentle hops on the nose. Taste is again smooth roasted malt little chocolate and a subtle bitter dry hop throughout. Palate is thin to medium with a chaulky finish. Solid easy drinker, very nice. Not so sure this qualifies as a porter more of a black PA or a mild black IPA.

On draught at Darkness Day
Pours bascially black with a small head and good lace.

The aroma is quite pungently wonderful featuring lots and lots of dank and piney hops.

The flavor is bitter with some spicy and piney hops right up front. The hoppiness fades about mid palate but keeps some nice citrus and allows some of the roast to shine. There really isn’t a lot of competition between roasty bitterness as most of that roastiness is very subdued giving the beer a more lightly toasted character, which works well here.

The palate is pretty gosh darned thin, I was surprised to see that this had 5% abv, I would have guessed it a bit lower in gravity, but it is highly drinkable and doesn’t ever come across as watery really.

Pours a dark dark brown, just light enough that you can tell it’s clear. Smell is bread with some pine and citrus notes. Like a very resinous black IPA. The taste definitely holds that pine, but with quite a bit more bread, some toffee, and a pleasant brown-sugariness which I fell in love with. I don’t know if they’ll ever do this again, but I’d drink more.

On tap at Darkness Day. Poured brown black with creamy tan head. Light aroma of smoke and resin. Light carb and med bod. Balanced tasty charred hop taste. I dig.

On tap at Surly. I have to say I prefer this to Darkness. It is almost like an American Strong Ale with a Darkness base. Nice combinations of the roasted malt, with some added sugar and citrus hops.

A great younger cousin to Darkness. Made from the spent grains and overall is a great beer.
