COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
From the blackest depths of the brewhouse comes Damien, Child of Darkness. Spawned from the usually discarded remnants of Darkness, Damien is a dry-hopped black ale. Flavors of roasted malt and dark brown sugar suffocated by aromas of tangerine and pine.

On tap @Mackenzie Pub (Minneapolis). Awesomely dark IPA that, from afar, looks as though it’s another porter or stout. However, the aroma will immediately notify you of the difference you are about to experience. Wonderful hoppy floweriness on the aroma. Smooth to drink, but a little thin on the palate. Nice hoppy grassy flavor with maple and chocolate on top from the malt, well balanced. Overall, a very nice beer for relaxing.

Poured at Star Bar? Nice deep brown, light brown head. Roasty and hoppy. Both are well represented in this one. Some light molasses and cocoa dance around. Good beer.

On tap at Firkin. Pours black/brown with a brown head. Sweet brown sugar/caramelly malty, with some pine, and some roasty bitterness. Then down in the glass some citrus pokes through as well. Fairly balanced between bitter and sweet from the malts, and medium bodied. Not as hop forward as the best of style -- including their own Blakkr -- but tasty malts with some hoppiness makes this one solid. 14.4

Smells like a bar room floor. Taste is light grain, grass & hops. Medium mouth. Some roast. Very easy to drink. Huge mouth.

Garnet tinted black pour, lacing to the sky. Pine and citrus oil nose. Some bitter chocolate with tree bark and cinnamon like earth spice. Holly. Flavor is built on a rich, juicy black cherry note. Underneath this, the malt is muted and ashy. The hops are resinous but not especially bold. The thinning out fruit flavors are annoying, but there is a pleasant, middling balance here; the high end/low end noisiness of many an example doesn’t define this one. Clean if somewhat thin palate throughout. Finish leaves behind a gamey roast film, and more of that juicy cherry.

Sample at Great Taste of the Midwest on 08/09/2014 (both regular version and a cask version dry hopped with Glacier): Pours black with a medium light beige head that diminishes gradually to a wispy film. Short strings of lace. Aroma of roasted malt, piney hops and fruit. Light-bodied with flavors of resiny hops, burnt malt and citrus. The finish is moderately bitter with a piney hops aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

Cask (dry hopped with Glacier) - big creamy head, pitch black color, piney hop aroma and flavor with a good shot or roasted malt backbone, mild citrusy notes too - very good overall ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at Surly - Glacier dry-hopped firkin aged for 3 weeks puts this version at 9%. Pours a glorious black with a stunning reverse cascade head that fades to a still appearance over time, leaving sticky lacing. Aroma is roasted malt, coffee bitterness, oak, cacao and dark cherries. Flavor is same and gains in complexity as it warms. Delicious.

Tap; Dark brown/black color; Medium body; Aroma of toasted malt, floral hops, & chocolate; Flavor of slight roasted malt, floral/pine hops, and citrus; Finish is only slightly bitter; Overall, more of a black ale than an IPA - but tasty.

Tap at red cow. Pint. Black with white tan head. Smells of roasted malt and tastes of it too. But has the ipa elements I’d expect as well. Feels nice on the tounge. Well done.

Odd beer. Thin and really roasty. Very little aroma. Somewhat acidic. Pour at Thomas, FFF,
