3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 brosen561 (70) - Minnesota, USA - DEC 3, 2011On tap @Mackenzie Pub (Minneapolis). Awesomely dark IPA that, from afar, looks as though it’s another porter or stout. However, the aroma will immediately notify you of the difference you are about to experience. Wonderful hoppy floweriness on the aroma. Smooth to drink, but a little thin on the palate. Nice hoppy grassy flavor with maple and chocolate on top from the malt, well balanced. Overall, a very nice beer for relaxing.

Like a porter and tastes nothing like Darkness even though it is made from the same used malts as Darkness. Had it once and that was enough for me.

Draft at the Blue Nile. Pours a deep, dark brown color with a tan head and some lacing. Aroma is lightly roasty, some pine hops. Medium on the palate with average carbonation. Flavor is sweet, malty, roasty, some chocolate and coffee, pine hops, with a light bitter finish. Good, but not great.

On tap. A good diversion to this cousin of Darkness - but overall I’ll take other Black IPAs over this one. Respectable though.

This was a great black ale. Not overly hopped like most black ales. This is very drinkable and enjoyable!

16 oz. pour, on tap at Buster’s on 28th. Consumed on 11-4-12. Pours a clear, dark brown with an amber hue and a small amount of beige head. Weak but enjoyable, dry and hoppy aroma features coffee with cream scent. Pleasant taste is well balanced, both hoppy and malty: Coffee, caramel, and some citrus elements. Light to medium body. Lively in the palate. Easy to drink. Overall, the beer is nice but not special.

Tap @ Darkness Day 2012. Pours a dark brown appearance with a cream colored head. Pretty roasty, dark chocolate, light coffee, quite piney hoppy aroma. Big grapefruity/piney hoppy, roasty dark malty flavor. Pretty interesting.

Decent black ipa. Obviiusly some elevated malt complexity. It isnt too mish mashed. Solid.

Pours a dark dark brown, just light enough that you can tell it’s clear. Smell is bread with some pine and citrus notes. Like a very resinous black IPA. The taste definitely holds that pine, but with quite a bit more bread, some toffee, and a pleasant brown-sugariness which I fell in love with. I don’t know if they’ll ever do this again, but I’d drink more.
