Well it is spicy. White head on a yellowish pour. At surly. Lager that leaves a burn in your mouth. Meh

Pour on tap at the brewery, clear golden pour with thin white head, aroma brought notes of biscuit, bread, nice grassy and herbal notes into a slight peppery, chili note without being vegetal, some slight oak. Taste was a mix of grass, spice, herbal notes into a slight biscuit, touch of oak into a bit of spice, nice yeasty note, finishing slightly dry, slightly bitter. Some spice as well lingers.

Not really sure why this beer is listed as a Helles... but whatever.

First off the beer looks great in the glass, only lightly hazy with a medium head, good lace, and a pale golden color.

The aroma is mild, with some nice hay, some bread dough and a bit of chile pepper.

The flavor is truly magical. It’s at a medium dry level with a nice clean maltiness and a very light but discernible level of bitterness. Mid palate the pepper flavor hits... at first the spiciness is mild then in the finish it intensifies. Before you know it your lips are tingling, I swear I’ve had multiple servings if this & it tastes more like Surly Hell than Pepper beer till a certain point & then it’s intense... not painfully so, actually very pleasantly so. I’m getting no hickory from it (thankfully)

I love this dang beer, if they canned it I would buy plenty.

Tap at Surly. Clean malty nose, rich, with some good pushes of fruitiness. Brilliant dark straw color, thin filmy head. Sweet light tropical fruit, the heat jumps in after a second or two, fruit reemerges, and then there are long peppery tracks. Thin-medium body. Nicely fruity, and the heat just right. On the edge of too hot. Interesting how the chiles wait politely for the fruit to show off first.

Draft at the new brewery. No discernible pepper aroma. But you most certainly get it in the flavor. Really nice. Would be funny to trick someone and pass this off as bud light.

Tap at brewery. Amber color with no head a lots of carbonation. Smoked chilies, corn, hay and light oak. Taste is spicy, leaving a light, burn on the tongue and lips. Body is lighter with a bubbly feel.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a clear golden yellow with a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma combines earthy grain, hay and earthy pepper note that has a bit of heat. Flavor starts with bread and hay but has a growing pepper note that adds some heat to the finish. Drinkable for a pepper beer.

Supposedly half pint pour (but actually around 10 oz., well above the 8 oz. mark on the glass), on tap at the Surly Beer Hall in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Consumed on 12-26-14. Pours a deep, bold, clear gold. Highly effervescent but with very little head. The liquid looks excellent, but I miss the head. Weak aroma is dominated by the pepper, but there is a little bit of honey sweetness. Pepper flavor atop a floral, fruity (apricot), sweet base. Nice heat but not overwhelming. The pepper works really well here, but the underlying beer is not exciting. White bread with Thai chili paste spread on it. Juicy: Pear, white grape juice. Medium body. Smooth, crisp, and lively in the palate. Long, spicy aftertaste. Good palate effects. Enjoyable. Seems like a good beer for someone who likes spice but otherwise has a rather plebian palate. That said, the spice does work really well.

Clear golden yellow in color... Aroma of light biscuity malts, slight peppery notes... Flavor is biscuity and light initially, gives way to fiery heat... Spicy chili pepper burn on palate... Interesting, decent ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
