Like Hops? Youíll like this fire-hued beer. This is the beer I have always dreamed of making. This is the beer that would come to mind while spending the last two years tearing down walls, hanging sheetrock, moving kegs, power washing the ceilings, arguing with various agencies, and cutting the water main. Without Golden Promise malt, made by family-owned Simpsons Malt, Furious would just be pissed offed. From Scotland, this malt is still produced in the tradition of turning over the barley by hand, resulting in a malt that is unsurpassed in its quality. Golden Promise is also used extensively by premium whisky distilleries such as The Macallan. This malt provides the backbone for the intense hop character. Four American hop varieties are used at a rate of over three pounds per barrel. The result is a rich malt sweetness infused with bright hop flavor and aroma from beginning to end. Oh yeah, itís about 6% alcohol and around 100 IBUs.

Pint glass on tap. St Louis Park, MN. Pours copper/amber in color. Moderately hazy. Small white head. Aroma is heavily hopped. Citrus and pine notes dominate. Caramely, malty under notes as well. Taste is mildly bitter, sweetness as well. Nicely balanced. Medium-full body for the style. Solid malty mouth feel. Generally enjoyed this beer.

Slightly hazy auburn pour with a two finger, creamy beige head that has great retention and leaves decent lacing. Aroma is dark caramel, lots of toast, light nutty notes, light crusty bread, citrus, pine and some sweet stone fruit. Flavor is very toasty and somewhat nutty up front, some nice cereal, dark caramel, crusty bread, a toasty, almost smoky wood note, deep, bitter citrus, woody pine, and hints of bitter stone fruit. Medium body, juicy, chewy entry, medium, blanketing and sharp carbonation and still juicy, but drier, finish with a nice hoppy bite. Really great beer, all the right notes for a punch you in the face with citrus and pine kinda IPA, but with a surprisingly deep malt base and just the right feel accompany it.

UPDATED: MAR 10, 2015 Lovely color, red, red amber. Microyeast bits. Hoppy aroma not real intense, fruit floral spice combo maybe. probably will rerate because Im getting over a cold. I bugged out when I seen this in the store in IA today,as Ive been waiting a long ass time to try any surly. I cringed though when I seen hyvee stack them in the produce aisle as a display instead of a fridge where they belong. Not complaining I got one from the fridge cooler and thankfull they are distributed. Has a sharpness in taste- maybe a roasted/toasted caramel, citrus, with a almost grahmy like crackery malt, then hops, lots of pine, loads of bitter. good dryness in finish. Quite piney and bitter with a solid distinct malt flavor/character.

Citrus and spicy smell. Strong malt backbone that is refined. Hop bittering is strong but balanced well by the bready, plumy malt. Finish is evolving from bitterness and light fruit to dried fruit. Taste flows nicely ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Quenches my hoppy palate with a very drinkability smooth carbonation that makes me wanna pound them down like Miller Lite when I was 18. Not as exciting as itís big brother Abrasive which plays Varsity where Iíd say this is a solid JV player...Cheers!

Flight at MSP. Different for an IPA, some savory spice. Creamy, slick body, nice lacing. Medium golden, some honey, not a lot of hops. Mid west IPA?
