Like Hops? You’ll like this fire-hued beer. This is the beer I have always dreamed of making. This is the beer that would come to mind while spending the last two years tearing down walls, hanging sheetrock, moving kegs, power washing the ceilings, arguing with various agencies, and cutting the water main. Without Golden Promise malt, made by family-owned Simpsons Malt, Furious would just be pissed offed. From Scotland, this malt is still produced in the tradition of turning over the barley by hand, resulting in a malt that is unsurpassed in its quality. Golden Promise is also used extensively by premium whisky distilleries such as The Macallan. This malt provides the backbone for the intense hop character. Four American hop varieties are used at a rate of over three pounds per barrel. The result is a rich malt sweetness infused with bright hop flavor and aroma from beginning to end. Oh yeah, it’s about 6% alcohol and around 100 IBUs.

Reviewed from notes. This was poured once in a pint glass and once in a tulip. There wasn’t any difference. The appearance was always a nice golden orange to amber color with a one and a half fingered white foamy head that dissipated within less than a minute. The lacing slid into the beer. The smell had a nice sweet maltiness running underneath of a nice citrusy/piney hoppiness. The taste was basically the same that lead to a decent sweet aftertaste and a dry sweet finish. On the palate, this one sat at/about a light to medium in body and holds a decent sessionable aspect about it. The carbonation was slightly smooth as it didn’t really seem to hold its own as far as sharpness for a normal AIPA. Overall, good AIPA for the most part, but this seems to be just a tad too smooth as I didn’t get the normal pummeling on my tongue from an AIPA. If anything, this is still worthy and maybe I hope to try this fresher some day.

Great hoppy goodness. One of best in- can brews, but suffers a bit on the head as a consequence. Best option available at MSP or Target Center when in the Twin Cities. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft poured into pint glass. The name says it all here - this is a hop heavy, deep amber IPA that amps up the IBUs whilst maintaining a malt backbone that keeps something of a balance here. But let’s be honest - balance is not what you are looking for here. Some sweetness on the back end that does its’ best to level out the bitterness.

Can dated 5/13/14 poured into a Duvel tulip. Appearance-Pours a hazy copper orange. A inch thick off white head shrinks to coat the top, leaving moderate lacing. Aroma- Aroma is of sticky tropical fruit. It reminds me of a melon salad with waves of caramel sweetness that cut through. Taste-Piney hops hit up front. The beer turns a bit jucier, with tropical fruit flavors. There is a lingering bitterness from the hop hit and there are some caramel flavors as well. Mostly bitter hops though. Palate-The beer is fairly balanced, albeit hop forward. As expected, the finish is very dry. Overall-Despite the local hype, I consider this to be a good beer, but nothing special. It has great flavors, but lacks a finer balance which detracts from the experience.

Location: Draft at Jake Melnick’s, 5/27/2014

Aroma: The nose is full of hops, mostly floral and citrus, pine, spice, and some malty notes
Appearance: The pour is golden-amber in color with an off-white colored head
Flavor: The flavor is big and hoppy, much like the nose, with a fairly bitter finish to it
Palate: The body is medium, it has a decent mouthfeel, and a fairly dry finish
Overall Impression: This beer gets it’s excellent reputation for a reason. This one is really good. I mean I can’t name too much not to like here.

Pours clear amber with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, caramel, citrus, grape, orange and peach. Taste is medium sweet and medium bitter with a long fruity and bitter finish. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

475 ml can at home, poured into a shaker. Canned on 10/1/14, ABV 6.2% Dark orange colour on the body, clear, good activity in it, with a small mostly white head on top, a bit thin but with good retention on my shaker, a glass I tend to avoid for exactly this reason, the not so good head forming and retention. Aroma has a malty backbone and lots of hops, tropical fruits, peach and nectarines flesh, light grapefruit, pine. Taste follows, more piney now, more grapefruit, orange peels, quite bitter with long duration. Medium thin body, soft carbonation, a bit oily on the palate. Great beer, almost worth what I paid for it.

this is my definitive balanced IPA, it comes out with a nice grapfruit/piney nose/taste, and has a nice balance of hops and malt resulting in a solid clean finish. overall a great beer to try if you are in the minnesota area

I tried this when Surly first started becoming the "rage" to see what all the fuss was about. Way too hoppy for my taste, but beyond that, I dislike this beer. Far too much citrus. More like Omar’s Hard Limeade than a beer. You can tell… I’m not a fan of the over-hopped citrus style.
