COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Like Hops? You’ll like this fire-hued beer. This is the beer I have always dreamed of making. This is the beer that would come to mind while spending the last two years tearing down walls, hanging sheetrock, moving kegs, power washing the ceilings, arguing with various agencies, and cutting the water main. Without Golden Promise malt, made by family-owned Simpsons Malt, Furious would just be pissed offed. From Scotland, this malt is still produced in the tradition of turning over the barley by hand, resulting in a malt that is unsurpassed in its quality. Golden Promise is also used extensively by premium whisky distilleries such as The Macallan. This malt provides the backbone for the intense hop character. Four American hop varieties are used at a rate of over three pounds per barrel. The result is a rich malt sweetness infused with bright hop flavor and aroma from beginning to end. Oh yeah, it’s about 6% alcohol and around 100 IBUs.

Dark gold, strong white head, sticky lacing. Dense earthy malt backbone is apparent, though the tropical gummy aroma from the sticky hops comes through more. Probably influenced from the can. Kudos. So clean and refreshing! A strong hoppy IPA you can gulp. Crystal hops? stand out and keep everything dark and shadowy. This is how I want a beer balanced, drinkable and enjoyable with intense flavors.

9/28/09 notes: poured at GABF, sampled both Thursday and Saturday. Because it is delicious. Pours amber with a surprising amount of brown coloration. Head is cream white. Aroma has a strawberry-piney aroma, with a dash of citrus. Palate is a success of creamy-crisp contrast, which works well with the flavors. I got a tart-bitter blend of strawberries and pine, always flirting but never actually perceived as sweet. Finish has refreshing bitterness. I great IPA, balanced, bitter, and interesting.

A hoppy beer with great flavor balance. Had on tap. Deep in color and long on finish. Other reviewers have pretty much nailed the description so I won’t waste space. Certainly an IPA you could drink all night.

A superb, lean IPA ramped up for maximum bitterness and yet incredibly drinkable. For all the talk about the malts on the can, I was blown away by how supple and thin this was - in the best sense. Australian pales ales always fatten out the hop profile with lots of sticky sugars, but this is all about the hops. 99 IBUs and yet I could imagine seeing off a few of these. Would love to see something like this here in Oz. (Can courtesy of Oslo - thanks buddy - at the Milson Point park session September 09)

Courtesy of Oslo, Ratebeer tasting under the Bridge 12/9. Wow, a beer like this in a can, unbelievable. Looks like it should contain cheap bourbon & coke mix. Dark amber with white head, pine citrus aromas. Beautiful caramel sweetness balanced out with seppo hops galore. I wish they sold these here in oz i’d buy it by the carton.

Draft at 8th Street Grill. Wow! This certainly has something to it. A well behaving malt profile and a very delicious and rather long lasting hop palate kicks in (maybe not furiously but very much present in deed). This one will hop OD a lager boy.

19 oz can into mug. 19 oz at a time is a great thing. Pours very dark golden-brown with a thick, dark beige head. Wonderful aroma of citrus, coriander, and pine/grass. Very strong flavors of grapefruit, lemongrass, pine, and plenty of hops, with notes of caramel. Nice, full bodied beer. Finishes with a strong bitterness and leaves a little residual in your mouth. Just awesome.

Tap at State and Lake. Deep amber pour with a creamy off-white head. Big dank hoppy aroma. Pine and a lot of fresh hoppy resin. There is a little bit of toasted malt and a kiss of citrus as well. A little bit of orange peel. As it warms the malts take on a lightly sweet caramelly character. Even a kiss of cookie dough as well. Quite a pronounced dank resiny bitterness, but it still has a solid balance throughout. Pretty damn tasty.
