COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Like Hops? You’ll like this fire-hued beer. This is the beer I have always dreamed of making. This is the beer that would come to mind while spending the last two years tearing down walls, hanging sheetrock, moving kegs, power washing the ceilings, arguing with various agencies, and cutting the water main. Without Golden Promise malt, made by family-owned Simpsons Malt, Furious would just be pissed offed. From Scotland, this malt is still produced in the tradition of turning over the barley by hand, resulting in a malt that is unsurpassed in its quality. Golden Promise is also used extensively by premium whisky distilleries such as The Macallan. This malt provides the backbone for the intense hop character. Four American hop varieties are used at a rate of over three pounds per barrel. The result is a rich malt sweetness infused with bright hop flavor and aroma from beginning to end. Oh yeah, it’s about 6% alcohol and around 100 IBUs.

16 oz. can. Pours a nice caramel amber. Smells strongly of grapefruit and citrus hop with a hint of sweet malt. Taste comes in asynchronous waves of deep citrus hop bitter and sweet caramel malt -- a nice dynamic balance throughout though. Palate is thick enough to add substance but not too thick to remove the hoppy crispness that the flavor portrays so well. A very nice IPA.

Poured from a can into a glass. Amber in color, nice amount of head with lots of lacing. Piney hop aroma, beer tastes hoppier the more of it I drink. No hint of alcohol in the flavor, great body on this one. Excellent IPA!

UPDATED: SEP 1, 2011 I always love this beer, it has a bit of a red color, and a citric yet piney smell, it is a very well balanced and easy drinking beer. If it was available to me all of the time it would be a staple in my fridge.

A: Rich reddish-amber body... dense, massive off white head comprised of minuscule, tightly packed bubbles... great retention and lacing.. S: I could smell this while pouring at arms length away... delicious pine and grapefruit it what seems perfect balance... slight caramel-toffee malt background T: So close to a 5 with i could give a 4.9... well balanced grapefruit and pine hop bitterness, rich maltiness, perhaps a bit much for my preferences... M: Smooth, medium bodied, good carbonation, with a crisp finish. D: I found the drinkability on this guy through the roof. Super nice beer...

Can at home. August 2011. Big thanks to Steve (fbm115) for sending this amazing beer.
Pours golden amber, glitteringly clear with a frothy eggshell-white head. When sinking my nose towards the glass I’m about to go crazy, it’s that fantastic. The fresh aroma of hop cones is preserved and I get the most wonderful fragrances of pineapple, grapefruit, citruses, resin, pine and grass. Super clean and crisp. I also appreciate that there’s no real sweetness to it, it’s very subtile. This makes it come together a lot better and showcases the hops in a superior way.

The big hop character is reappearing in the taste and everything else rotates around that. The balance between sweetness and bitterness is spot on, neither is dominating. With such a rich hop aroma this is surprising, many other IPA’s and IIPA’s have a problem with being to sweet and sticky in the taste. Not Furious. The malt flavour is present in the taste and adds another facet to the beer. What more can I say, I wish the can was larger? When an IPA appear like a Double IPA in terms of taste and aroma you can be damn sure its good. Thanks again Steve for sending me the best IPA I had this summer.

Pours an amber ruby color with a medium tan head...nice lacing and retention. Aroma is earthy and spicy...subtle citrus...light roasty malt backing. Flavor follows suit...great hop profile...subtle citrus sets off the earthy/spicy noted perfectly and good malt backing! Mouthfeel is silky and the finish lingers nicely with spiced grapefruit...dry. damn good!

UPDATED: OCT 21, 2011 Poured from a tap into a pint at King’s Wine Bar in Minneapolis, Minn. Color was a mix of copper and orange. Missed the head, but the lacing was high and consistent throughout the beer. Lots of different strong flavors that blended well together. Kind of like the Abrasive that I had earlier in the day, it was a good mixture of dark (chocolate, caramel, malty) and citrus (pine, grapefruit). The taste was similar to the smell, down to the mixes. The lacing stayed on my unshaven face, which I enjoyed. Slight bitterness, but all the blended flavors kind of outweigh it. Average carbonation. So good throughout, just smooth and consistent. I wish I would have had this before the Abrasive. The ratings would have been higher. Still loved the Furious.
