COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Like Hops? You’ll like this fire-hued beer. This is the beer I have always dreamed of making. This is the beer that would come to mind while spending the last two years tearing down walls, hanging sheetrock, moving kegs, power washing the ceilings, arguing with various agencies, and cutting the water main. Without Golden Promise malt, made by family-owned Simpsons Malt, Furious would just be pissed offed. From Scotland, this malt is still produced in the tradition of turning over the barley by hand, resulting in a malt that is unsurpassed in its quality. Golden Promise is also used extensively by premium whisky distilleries such as The Macallan. This malt provides the backbone for the intense hop character. Four American hop varieties are used at a rate of over three pounds per barrel. The result is a rich malt sweetness infused with bright hop flavor and aroma from beginning to end. Oh yeah, it’s about 6% alcohol and around 100 IBUs.

UPDATED: SEP 28, 2006 On tap at Arcadia Cafe’...it looked a dusky, dunnish hue when they server poured it, when I sat at my table, it glowed bright orange...held out of sunlight, a truer dark amber-ish tone. Quarter inch head, creamy, and long-lasting. Very fine appearance. Up to the nose: fresh, vibrant hops, zesty citrus, glimmers of pine, a grapefruit and pineapple tango, but banana aches to cut in...lovely stuff, and ample for any hophead’s appreciation. (4 hops, Amarillo for sure...) Enters the mouth with ferocity and freewheeling force, spill bitterness all over the mouth, every crack and crevice is filling and rejoices from the deliciousness...creeps everywhere in the palate, and each area of contact finds it’s reward. A citric fruit explosion, but well met with an ample, biscuity malt base (Golden Promise is in there)...it’s a fertile malty field, and the hops are madly at play above! Next comes the overload, the frequent pucker, the lip-smacking, the bitterness, and tasty hop flavor clinging tenaciously to the lips and tongue...zippy, zingy, mouth-grabbingly delicious at every sip and gulp. A beer for hopheads to keep reaching for and for Minnesotans to be proud of!

UPDATED: DEC 18, 2009 [Can 4/26/09] Pours copper reddish/orange with a fine head. The scotch malt is easily identified in the aroma and flavor. Piney and pretty bitter, dry. Sticky body, with soda like carbonation. Reminds me of Moylan’s Hopsickle. 7.4.8.4.16 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . [rerate can, thanks to WisconsinBeer!] Pours a darker copper/red, clear, with a very sticky foamy off-white head. Aroma is brightly hoppy, very piney, resinous, honey malt sweetness, loads of green pine needles. Flavor follows, super piney, sweet cotton candy, great aggressive hop kick, quite bitter but also very sweet so the high IBU’s are fairly balanced, seemingly like a double IPA. Medium bodied, sugary watery feeling with sharp carbonation. 8.4.8.4.16

Cool looking can from the grimreeser. Thanks Chad, I have been wanting to try this for awhile. Pours a deep amber with a thick beige head and spotty lacing. Aroma of caramel malts, ale esters, and mild fruity haps. Medium bodied with a nice English malty and well water texture. Carbonation is somewhere between soft and medium, and not prickly at all. Initial flavor of rich caramel and toffee malts, along with some very subtle tobacco and peat. There is an aggressive herbal hopiness mid palate, countered by some subtle citrus. Finish is earthy with dominate wet tea bag bitterness. I think what many people are missing about this beer is that it is more of an English IPA, with some interesting tweaks. Very solid example of the style

16 oz. can courtesy of SS. Pours a hazy copper color with a medium sized pillowy beige head. The aroma is big on the citrus hops with enough caramel malt sweetness to keep things interesting. The flavor is a nice balance between the pine, citrus hops and the caramel malt sweetness early. As you get closer to finishing the glass, there is a definite shift toward the bitterness. Medium/full bodied, chewy IPA. I would love to have this locally.

This IPA rocked! An amber color with a moderate head. The aroma is full of perfume and spice. I also sniff out some pears and oranges. The flavor is quite bitter on this one. I taste some lemons, orange peel, and vanilla. The finish is rather bitter. A well balanced and excellent beer!

Can, thanks secret santa! Slightly hazy light mahogany body, tan head w. nice lacing. Nose is big pine, some resin, a bit of orange along with a nice juicy malt backbone. Flavor is resin, orange, nice toasted malt, caramel. Bitterness grows in the finish along w. a bit of roast.

Thanks to Ian for smuggling this back from Sturgis. Pours out a beautiful copper color with a big white head. Big hoppy, pine, grapefruit aroma. Taste is a hoppy explosion with hints of grapefruit. There is a hint of malt that smooths this out really nice. Finishes nice and dry, an absolute classic.
