COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Like Hops? You’ll like this fire-hued beer. This is the beer I have always dreamed of making. This is the beer that would come to mind while spending the last two years tearing down walls, hanging sheetrock, moving kegs, power washing the ceilings, arguing with various agencies, and cutting the water main. Without Golden Promise malt, made by family-owned Simpsons Malt, Furious would just be pissed offed. From Scotland, this malt is still produced in the tradition of turning over the barley by hand, resulting in a malt that is unsurpassed in its quality. Golden Promise is also used extensively by premium whisky distilleries such as The Macallan. This malt provides the backbone for the intense hop character. Four American hop varieties are used at a rate of over three pounds per barrel. The result is a rich malt sweetness infused with bright hop flavor and aroma from beginning to end. Oh yeah, it’s about 6% alcohol and around 100 IBUs.

Can from a trade with phaleslu. Pours hazy copper color with cream colored head. Aromas of grapefruit and caramel. Bitter grapefruit flavor with sweet biscuity malts. Medium body with average carbonation and a resinous mouthfeel. Thanks Peter.

On tap at Hopleaf, Chicago. I showed up expecting Darkness, but this was there instead. No matter. A solid, hoppy IPA that went down so nice amid the overcrowded bar. Total citrus taste. Wonderful.

From a Big Boy Can. O ya. Pours out a nice amber topped with a off white head. A very nice hop aroma along with a great hop tast. A very nice and thick body. Thanks Jake.

UPDATED: JAN 28, 2009 Rerate 1/28/09. Can courtesy of Guerde. OK, now I get it. The nose smells like fresh cut grapefruit! Taste is orange, yellow grapefruit and pine. Delicious. Thanks Andy for sending a fresh can for rerating! ++++++++++++++++ 4/3/08 Pint can. Pours a cloudy amber with a big foamy 2 finger tan head with nice lacing. I had to check to see if Furious was indeed the IPA, as my can tastes more like a barleywine. Maybe I got a bad can, as the other ratings sure don’t match what I’m experiencing. Nose is caramel malts, spice and some hops. Palate is much the same with a bitter hop finish. No citrus hops, no grapefruit, no nothing. I may have to give it another go later down the road.

Scored this in a trade with Scubarex. Many thanks! The tall boy pours a translucent, copper, orange amber with a creamy, slightly beige head that laced the glass heavily. Spicy aroma of pine, lemons and grapefruit. Flavor is well rounded with nice doughy, sweet malts and oranges and lemons. Finish is slightly bitter and dry. Very drinkable.

Deep copper red in color with a little off white head. Citrusy piney hoppy aroma. Resiny hoppy flavor. Light malty character. Piney grassy hoppy notes. Medium bodied. Well balanced beer. Crisp and refreshing. Very nice.

RBSG 2007 Tour at Surly – Deep amber, thick creamy off white head. Hop forward nose of grapefruit, pine, and earth that relies on a soft toasted caramel malt backbone. Well bittered piney earth-like flavors are balanced with just touches of toasted sweet malt. Bitter from start to finish. Medium bodied with a pillow soft carbonation. Very nice session IPA

Pint sized can courtesy of Greg. Pours a clear dark amber with a medium sized cream colored head. Aroma of faint pine, malt, citrus and hops. Taste of light pine, faint citrus, malt and hops. I doubt this is a fresh can and Id would love to try a fresh one in the future.
