3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 GG (1980) - NorCal, California, USA - FEB 26, 2007
UPDATED: APR 27, 2007 NorCal tasting Feb 07 - First time tasting an IPA from a can and I can safely say that it was a really nice beer. Fresh, green, hopped-up nose with a clean malt profile. Apearance was amber in color, clear with a nice hefty head. Mouthfeel was a little lighter than I like in IPA’s but overall it was still nice. Flavor was just a clean, crisp, hoppy, sweet malt combo that made this a very nice experience.

TAP: amber pour, aroma of citrus, pine, and hop. Taste is sweet citrus hops with some malt to back it up, with a dry hop finish with a little alcohol presence.
Tea-bagged Furious. Wonderful - tea flavor comes through, with a little bitterness.

UPDATED: MAR 7, 2010 Pale orange color. Smallish head that leaves a good deal of lace. Nose is loaded w/ wonderful fruity hop goodness. I’d guess amarillo is involved. Pearches, orange and a little bit of pine. Carbonation is slightly lacking but a strong, sticky bitterness keeps the palate from getting too dull. Slightly sweet. Aside from the great nose, however, there is little to keep me interested. Still very good though.
Rating for Tea Bagged Furious. Cask version at Night of the Living Ales 2010. Cloudy copper. Big hoppy nose. Some astringency from the tea compliments hop bitterness. Citric and floral taste w/ some tea. Dry. 7 3 8 3 16. 3.7 overall unless I added wrong. Try it if you see it. It’s different and good.

Lots of hops all over the place on this golden orange colored beer from a 16 oz can. Thanks to toncatcher for sharing. Hops continued through the flavor with some decent malt backbone. Not too bad. I liked it.

UPDATED: JUL 12, 2010 Lovely deep copper with a massive, pillowy white head. Nice lacing, head sticks around well, attractive stuff. Nose redolent with citric hops, quite tart and bitter, good undertone of sweetness. VERY hoppy stuff, big kick of hops, full of grapefruit and some pine, well-balanced with light caramel sweetness. Great palate, fat and rich, a mite syrupy but not cloying, just a hugely enjoyable feeling in the mouth. The best beer I’ve had out of a can, and hooray for Surly for putting this one out.

UPDATED: FEB 23, 2008 RBSG 2007 Pub Crawl – Cask at the Happy Gnome. Clear copper with a small, bubbly white head. Grapefruit and earth nose, a touch of pine. Flavor is bitter citrus, herbal, earthy, bold but not sharp. Dry earthy herbal finish.
Re-rate. 16 oz can from UncleJedi - thanks! Gushed a bit... Hazy amber with a huge beige head that descends rockily. Earthy grapefruit nose, pine and caramel. Earthy hop flavors, lightly spicy, grapefruit and rich caramel. Herbal finish. Awesome rings of thick lace al the way to the bottom. Wonderful! Bumped from 3.8 to 4.

On tap at Barley Johns. "Imperial Red" would likely be the slot to file this one under. Lovely in the glass, projecting an ambient caramel orange glow with a bubbly tan top. Sweet honey hops speak of amarillo and simcoe sentiments. Sugary smooth grapefruit channels up the nose and cherry amaretto toffee takes center stage. All in all, this nose is a glorious, sugary starfruit assortment. Bitter flavor abatement christens sweet honeydew and amarillo bliss. Buttered rum with grenadine. Furious indeed. Cherry grahams from sweet cobbler, spiked with bitterness beyond belief. Sharp and synoptically sweet, drumming out some sharp alpha acids at the edges. Hints of superlative caramelized scotch traits gives a desirable spicy background. Fuller bodied with epically balanced and spicy-sweet sables, and a hop agenda that inserts new enthusiasm unto whatever category it gets filed under. Honeycomb and grapefruit encrusted with rock candi sugar close the door on an extremely enjoyable ale.

Pours a hazy amber color with a foamy head that lasts a while. Great aroma of grapefruit and pine resin hops, , light sweet fruit, and a touch of toasty malt. Flavor follows along the same lines. Nice lingering dry bitter finish. Simply a fantastic IPA.
