COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Like Hops? You’ll like this fire-hued beer. This is the beer I have always dreamed of making. This is the beer that would come to mind while spending the last two years tearing down walls, hanging sheetrock, moving kegs, power washing the ceilings, arguing with various agencies, and cutting the water main. Without Golden Promise malt, made by family-owned Simpsons Malt, Furious would just be pissed offed. From Scotland, this malt is still produced in the tradition of turning over the barley by hand, resulting in a malt that is unsurpassed in its quality. Golden Promise is also used extensively by premium whisky distilleries such as The Macallan. This malt provides the backbone for the intense hop character. Four American hop varieties are used at a rate of over three pounds per barrel. The result is a rich malt sweetness infused with bright hop flavor and aroma from beginning to end. Oh yeah, it’s about 6% alcohol and around 100 IBUs.

On Tap @ Binny’s South Loop. Really enjoyable. Pour quite a dark amber glowing color, almost brown. Head is creamy and light tan in color, lots of beutiful lace. Malty, grapefruit, caramel, toffee, lots of piney hops, bitter, citrus, and very well balanced. Slightly earthy and a nice creamy mouthfeel. Very good, enjoyed every moment of this wouderfully crafted beer.

Pours dark orange brown with a slight haze and a thick off white head. Aroma is very strong hop resin pineapple and grapefruit with a nice thick floral pine note. Some tasty caramel malt as well. Flavor starts mildly sweet with the same citrus hops and zesty fruitiness. Very strong bitter hop oils and a very fresh sort of resin flavor really give this a tasty bite that doesn’t have any astringency or unpleasantness. Medium body and moderate carbonation. This is a very good IPA. Not the best I’ve had but a really easy to drink hoppy beer.

Very nice IPA. Slightly hazy, with a beautiful, frothy lush head. The aroma is perfectly clean hoppiness but still well-balanced with sweet malts. Pleasant earthiness and very herbal overall. The flavor is full of peat and hops, and is clean and refreshing. Some minerals in the finish. Very dry, very heavy. Nice.

Beer pours an attractive amber color with a big totally retained off white head. Heavy lacing with this one. Aroma is big hoppy, very fresh hop aroma with nice juiciness. A little cereal aroma also. Flavor is straightforward hoppy goodness, though just a bit of a let down relative to the aroma. Hoppy goodness none the less. Palate is smooth and oily.

Can from CLevar. Thanks man. Deep amber pour with a good sized khaki head with some decent staying power. The aroma is mostly a combonation of citrusy hops and toasted caramel malts. Perhaps an herbal tea note slips in there but it’s a pretty straight forward scent. The flavor follows. This has a sweet, and fairly substantial, caramel malty backbone that counters the citrusy hop bitterness. I keep thinking pine too but it’s trumped by tropical fruit. It drys out a bit in the finish with some good lingering bitterness. Quite a bit of flavor for 6%. If you’re looking for a balanced IPA, without sacraficing flavor, look no further. Personally, I still do prefer some of the dryer west coast versions but this is a tasty, and very drinkable (if you like hops) IPA from Surly.

A long time coming on this one. Thanks to Syview! Beautiful Ruby colour. Lovely Piney/Citrus Nose. Good balance. Not overly bitter but very very drinkable. Citrus/lemon finish. I really enjoyed this on my trip back to Los Angeles on the Surfliner. Could drink a four pack of this and be a very happy man!

From a 16oz Can. Pours a mostly transparent, deep caramel amber with shades of braeburn apple skin, topped with a tall layer of foamy beige head. Clean hoppy aroma with notes of fresh grapefruit zest, watermelon rind, lemon pith, and bitter planty herbs. A hint of mango skins as well, backed by a graham cracker biscuity malt base. Light bodied, creamy carbonation. The carbonation is a bit thin and un-natural; a bit more crispness would help liven the palate up some. The malt body that greets the tongue has a great caramel sweetness though it doesn’t get too sweet or sticky and fits the light body quite well. A bit of spicy centennial-like tarocco orange squeezed over a teething biscuit; sounds weird, but I like it. Clever and dramatic in the way it starts sweet and malty, but ends dry and bitter - the extremety of the palate sensations is quite remarkable. Finish is long and dry, with a great sprucy bitterness left lingering. Thanks, Tom!

#3 and the last in the roommate is awesome and bought me surly tasting. 16oz can. Billowing, large beige head sits on a dark brown/red body. Aroma is a huge amount of hops, pine and citrus in origin, carmel, light roasted malt, pleasant light fruits, caramel, a little nutty. Flavor is a lot of pine hops, but with a pretty strong malt background, orange, and other light citrus fruit, some caramel, though the hops overpower everything else. Big bodied and creamy. Again very fresh and appealing,
