COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Like Hops? You’ll like this fire-hued beer. This is the beer I have always dreamed of making. This is the beer that would come to mind while spending the last two years tearing down walls, hanging sheetrock, moving kegs, power washing the ceilings, arguing with various agencies, and cutting the water main. Without Golden Promise malt, made by family-owned Simpsons Malt, Furious would just be pissed offed. From Scotland, this malt is still produced in the tradition of turning over the barley by hand, resulting in a malt that is unsurpassed in its quality. Golden Promise is also used extensively by premium whisky distilleries such as The Macallan. This malt provides the backbone for the intense hop character. Four American hop varieties are used at a rate of over three pounds per barrel. The result is a rich malt sweetness infused with bright hop flavor and aroma from beginning to end. Oh yeah, it’s about 6% alcohol and around 100 IBUs.

I live in Chicago and I might very well drive to Minnesota just to stock up on Furious. This is hands-down my favorite beer of 2011.

Thanks to oakbluff for this gem! Surly Furious 16 oz can Moderate pour in a shaker Recent brewing, enjoyed 07/07. Poured a copper brown with a large rocky fully lasting head. Smelt of strong pine, resin, spruce and the whole forest of strong hops, pineapple cake, grapefruit, some toasted grain. Taste was upfront strong bitter piney hops with a moderate sweet toasty malt backbone followed by a harsh bitter resin hops and more of the hops backbone on a lingering resin hops finish. Palate was medium bodied, oily, lively carbonated, and strongly astringent. Overall, this is just awesome. Hops galore with a nice malt backbone. Perfect balance. Perfect everything really. Should almost be perfect, but I let my Steel Reserve drinking friend have a sip and he recoiled in disgust. "Too bitter, man! ", he said. So thanks to ballplayin’ Jordan and his Steelies it doesn’t get a perfect score. I suppose it’s a little harsh if you’re not used to it. True, it’s really harsh and bitter for an IPA. Maybe over the top for some people, but for an experienced hophead this is a nice little treasure.

This beer is absolutely bursting with hoppy aroma and flavor. The moment you open the can it gives off such a resiny citrus hop aroma. It pours into the glass a dark amber to copper color with a nice creamy head that appears to lose nothing from the brewers’ beloved canning method. The taste, oh the taste! This packs as much flavor as many of the DIPAs that I have tried. It is so citrusy, piney, and bitter.

UPDATED: OCT 8, 2009 I love the IPAs with the heavy citrus hops aroma and the taste to match. This is my favorite beer of the year so far.

This beer is the premier example of a west coast ipa not from the west coast. Insanely drinkable with lots of flavor and character.

Huge cloud of massive pine and citrus hop aroma, enormous proportions, I’m talking Dreadnaught enormity,it stays that big for a long time, you can detect some of that Scottish carmel malt, but this is all about the hops, all that hop aroma delivers what it promises when it comes to taste, full rich citrus and pine taste, and absolutely superb finishing bitterness, sweet caramel shows up in little pockets, just medium bodied enough not to be confused with an Imperial, all these flavors cease to fade, at the end the huge hop assault does dry the tongue. Absoutely stunning in all respects virtually the perfect IPA,and all this from A CAN. An absolute drop everything and go on a seek and find mission for any hophead
