COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Like Hops? You’ll like this fire-hued beer. This is the beer I have always dreamed of making. This is the beer that would come to mind while spending the last two years tearing down walls, hanging sheetrock, moving kegs, power washing the ceilings, arguing with various agencies, and cutting the water main. Without Golden Promise malt, made by family-owned Simpsons Malt, Furious would just be pissed offed. From Scotland, this malt is still produced in the tradition of turning over the barley by hand, resulting in a malt that is unsurpassed in its quality. Golden Promise is also used extensively by premium whisky distilleries such as The Macallan. This malt provides the backbone for the intense hop character. Four American hop varieties are used at a rate of over three pounds per barrel. The result is a rich malt sweetness infused with bright hop flavor and aroma from beginning to end. Oh yeah, it’s about 6% alcohol and around 100 IBUs.

Fabulous brew. Aroma is of strong hops and citrus. Appearance was an orangish amber with a frothy head. Taste was fairly medium all around, very nice amount of hops. Very nice, drinkable IPA.

UPDATED: JUL 11, 2010 Nov. 2007 - Pour was dark brown color with good inch head and nice lacing. Strong aroma of hop. Flavor was kick you in the teeth pine and citrus hops with a nice caramel malt backbone with a touch of chocolate and maybe even some earthiness. Really bitter, but not unpleasant. Good brew! July 2010, on tap in MN - Can’t say too much different, except the color was dark amber with red highlights and nice lacing. I have to bump this up because it was just really tasty. It is everything mentioned in the original review in spades. 3.9 up to 4.2

Wow. Nicely done. Big hop flavor with perfect malty back. Really well balanced. Really bitter hoppy finish. I wish I could get this all the time.

#3 and the last in the roommate is awesome and bought me surly tasting. 16oz can. Billowing, large beige head sits on a dark brown/red body. Aroma is a huge amount of hops, pine and citrus in origin, carmel, light roasted malt, pleasant light fruits, caramel, a little nutty. Flavor is a lot of pine hops, but with a pretty strong malt background, orange, and other light citrus fruit, some caramel, though the hops overpower everything else. Big bodied and creamy. Again very fresh and appealing,

UPDATED: NOV 29, 2008 Surely this can of Surly couldn’t compare with a bottled beer. You are correct. It doesn’t compare. It is actually better than many bottled IPA’s. Aroma and flavor is full and rich hops and malts. Pours a dark amber with a nice sized head. Pine, pineapple, big hops and big malts. A sticky brew and I loved it. One last thing.... Did I mention anything about BIG HOPS!!!!!!! It is like my nose was smashed into a pine tree!!!!

On tap at Jake Melnick’s in dowtown Chicago. I’m pretty sure this was just the normal Furious and not the tea-bagged version. Amber color, darker than what I would expect from an IPA. Thick, fluffy head retains well and produces some nice lacing. Citrus and grapefruit in the aroma.Very citrusy taste with some grass notes. Very smooth -- the beer goes down so easy, yet it’s very full flavored. Nice bitter hoppy finish that leaves you wanting more. I could drink several of these as a session beer. It’s clean an refreshing. Would also go great with a fish or chicken dinner.

Can from tytoanderso - I mean santa. Poured deep amber orange, nice fluffy head, lots of lacing. Aroma of grapefruit citrus hops, pine hops, caramel, and some spiced hops. Very nice and complex. Taste is caramel malt, hoppy with lots of pine and citrus hop, finish is bitter resin pine hop. Mouth is full and sticky. Solid IPA and a nice change of pace from the usually over-hopped version.

Can. Pours Amber/slightly red with medium off white head. Aroma is plenty hoppy with big floral and citrus notes. Flavor is grapefruit hops with a nice malty finish to balance the beer. Definitely try this one if you’re a hop head!
