COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Like Hops? You’ll like this fire-hued beer. This is the beer I have always dreamed of making. This is the beer that would come to mind while spending the last two years tearing down walls, hanging sheetrock, moving kegs, power washing the ceilings, arguing with various agencies, and cutting the water main. Without Golden Promise malt, made by family-owned Simpsons Malt, Furious would just be pissed offed. From Scotland, this malt is still produced in the tradition of turning over the barley by hand, resulting in a malt that is unsurpassed in its quality. Golden Promise is also used extensively by premium whisky distilleries such as The Macallan. This malt provides the backbone for the intense hop character. Four American hop varieties are used at a rate of over three pounds per barrel. The result is a rich malt sweetness infused with bright hop flavor and aroma from beginning to end. Oh yeah, it’s about 6% alcohol and around 100 IBUs.

16 oz. can courtesy thebeardedbrewer shared with Exec. Board. Pours amber red with off-white head. nose of grapefruit and grass, some sweet resiny notes. Taste is huge hop flavor, grapefruit, resin, pine and grass. Decent caramel malt backbone. Great IPA. Good Balance.

A huge thanks to theisti for hauling this one back from the Twin Cities for me. Pours a clear, dark amber/brown with a large, frothy, beige head. The aroma punches you in the face with heavy grapefruit and pine and just a touch of sweet caramel malts hiding in the background. The mouthfeel is the closest thing to perfect that I’ve ever gotten from and IPA; medium-bodied, creamy and lightly effervescent with a tight bitter finish. The flavor is an excellent blend of sweet caramel malts and in-your-face grapefruit and piney hops. Any hop head that has yet to savor this brew should immediately add it to their "want" list and start making friends with someone from The Land of a Thousand Lakes. The folks in MN are truly fortunate. Thanks again Tim.

Thanks to delriumfest for this one! A- Body is a translucent dark amber/ ruby red hue. Pours with a nice 2 finger creamy white head which slowly subsides to 1/2 finger and has perfect retention from there. Leaves lots of lacing all the way down the glass. Body is uniform in color/conistency. S-Caramel, toffee, and spicy hops come to the nose first and at the end is a big dose of citrus. Smell falls on the sweet/spicy end of the IPA spectrum. T-The initial flavor is quite subdued, a hint of earthy hops comes through with an even smaller dose of pine mixed in. The finish is where this beer gets complex. Caramel malt sweetness comes though in a big way in an attempt to balance the assault of piny hops, citrus hop flavor, citrus hop resiny bitterness, and a spicy hop accent. What lingers is a medium to high residual hop bitterness and a hint of spicy hops. P- Wow. Very well done. Medium tingly carbonation and a smooth oily body. O- This reminds me of a good red ale rather than an IPA. The flavor is smooth and balanced and this is certainly not a hop bomb-though the hop bitterness is there. My first Surly brew, and I have been waiting to try Surly for quite a long time now. Well done overall and something I would trade for again Serving type: can Reviewed on: 12-24-2008 02:00:44

9/28/09 notes: poured at GABF, sampled both Thursday and Saturday. Because it is delicious. Pours amber with a surprising amount of brown coloration. Head is cream white. Aroma has a strawberry-piney aroma, with a dash of citrus. Palate is a success of creamy-crisp contrast, which works well with the flavors. I got a tart-bitter blend of strawberries and pine, always flirting but never actually perceived as sweet. Finish has refreshing bitterness. I great IPA, balanced, bitter, and interesting.

16oz can via trade at DLD. pours a beautiful, slightly dark ruby/copper with a perfect half inch vanilla white head and great lacing through the whole glass. aroma is wonderful with bold, sweet hops, grapefruit, pineapple juice, some spicy pine, grass clippings, and just a touch of toasty malt. flavor is delicious as well with spicy, bitter hops up front with notes of pine, orange, and grapefruit perfectly balanced by slightly sweet, biscuity malts and a hint of caramel with a long, bittersweet hoppy finish. mouthfeel is almost creamy, smooth, with solid carbonation and very easy to drink. overall, a wonderful IPA.

Can from Tyler! Big Head! Frosty white, three fingers worth. Beautiful dark red/amber color. Good lacing. Smell of citrus hops! Also the smell of malt. Taste is nice bitterness right off the bat. Yet it has a hidden sweetness and a smooth after taste. Taste is all HOPS. Tyler said it was the best beer/IPA out of a can and he was right. Really good IPA!!! Thanks TY for a great beer!
