COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Like Hops? You’ll like this fire-hued beer. This is the beer I have always dreamed of making. This is the beer that would come to mind while spending the last two years tearing down walls, hanging sheetrock, moving kegs, power washing the ceilings, arguing with various agencies, and cutting the water main. Without Golden Promise malt, made by family-owned Simpsons Malt, Furious would just be pissed offed. From Scotland, this malt is still produced in the tradition of turning over the barley by hand, resulting in a malt that is unsurpassed in its quality. Golden Promise is also used extensively by premium whisky distilleries such as The Macallan. This malt provides the backbone for the intense hop character. Four American hop varieties are used at a rate of over three pounds per barrel. The result is a rich malt sweetness infused with bright hop flavor and aroma from beginning to end. Oh yeah, it’s about 6% alcohol and around 100 IBUs.

A superb IPA with plenty of grass and citrus flavor. A long-lasting malty finish. Yummm.

2009 Can - Thanks tytoanderso! - Pour is dark translucent amber with a frothy off white head...aroma is sticky hop nuggets, citrus resin and pine, sweet malt...flavour is all of the above, massive resin bitterness that is balanced with way more malt than typically found, results in an IPA/IIPA hybrid of sorts...just terrific...

Big hearty thanks to MrBunn on this one. Aroma is all grapefruit...all the way.Pours a dark amber with a very nice head and lace. That said however, the flavor didn’t blow my socks off. Not in a bad way, but I just expected a more powerful bitter here. Some good malty characteristics, some floral and pine notes, but pulls through a little weak.Finish is bitter and a touch metallic at the back of the throat. All together its still damn drinkable...That smell is fantastic.

UPDATED: SEP 24, 2009 Source: Extra in trade with Garry Aroma: Very reminiscent of Arrogant Bastard, lots of hops and even more caramel. Yum. Appearance: Dark amber/copper with three fingers of off-white head. Flavor: I get mostly caramel with a hop bitterness to match. Signifcant sweetness on the finish. Re: Had a newer can, nicely balanced now with extra bitterness. Palate: Medium carbonation. Overall: Nice beer, though to me it seems more like an American Strong Ale than an IPA. Pretty darn tasty.

UPDATED: JUN 28, 2009 I’m a hop-head...so this was made for me!! I think this is my idea of a perfect IPA. Pours a dark copper color, hues of red and orange. Medium-sized head that leaves a trail of beautiful lace to the last sip. Big, fruity aroma upon smelling...peaches, pineapple, citrusy hops. Maybe Amarillo hops are used....not really sure. Flavor is pine, fruity hops...BIG, BIG HOPS...with a nice malt balance. Dry, bittering finish that I love! Not quite a session beer but....one of my favorites.

Amber pour with an off-white head. Super hop aroma of citrus. Papow. Taste is spicy, bitter hops that balance with a tastty malt backbone. Creamy smooth. I want more. Nice lacing

Cans from DBhog and lb4lb, thanks guys! Poured into a standard pint glass this beer produced a nice amber hue with a long lasting 1 finger head. The aroma consisted of pine and citrus. The taste almost mirrors the smell for me. I found that the first sip is very crisp due to the hop profile and carbonation. This beer, however, finished very dry. This is an excellent IPA and should be looked out for. Well done Surly!

Consumed on a snowy winter’s day in Minnesota while on an unexpected layover with the family. Craving craft beer and indian food so dragged brother-in-law to Tandoor restaurant up the street from the Embassy Suites. Pours crimson-amber with little head. Smells of candied fruit, red licorice, caramel, orange oils from citrusy hops. Brilliant fruity, hoppy, warming spice, creme caramel with a balanced finish. Body is resinous, full, soft effervescent mouthfeel. This IPA was a divine paring with samosas.
