UPDATED: SEP 8, 2009 Rating #200. 16 oz. can. Pour is deep copper. Taste and aroma are big hops. If this was a blind taste, would have guessed OR or WA brew. Nice balance throughout, and a very clean, dry finish. Overall a great beer.

A long time coming on this one. Thanks to Syview! Beautiful Ruby colour. Lovely Piney/Citrus Nose. Good balance. Not overly bitter but very very drinkable. Citrus/lemon finish. I really enjoyed this on my trip back to Los Angeles on the Surfliner. Could drink a four pack of this and be a very happy man!

Canned. Pours deep copper with khaki head and a bit of lacing. Big spicey citrusy aroma of passionfruit, fresh oranges, strawberry and fresh flowers...all of this married with sweet and sticky caramel malt aroma. Flavor is resinous hoppiness with thick, sweet and slightly salty malt flavors. Behind the strong hoppiness I sense some cookie dough-ish malt flavors. Creamy, fluffy mouthfeel. Great palate. Dry and bitter finish. A glorious and intriguing IPA.

16 oz. can courtesy of SS. Pours a hazy copper color with a medium sized pillowy beige head. The aroma is big on the citrus hops with enough caramel malt sweetness to keep things interesting. The flavor is a nice balance between the pine, citrus hops and the caramel malt sweetness early. As you get closer to finishing the glass, there is a definite shift toward the bitterness. Medium/full bodied, chewy IPA. I would love to have this locally.
4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 corby112 (1862) - philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - OCT 31, 2009
Pours a very amber/chestnut brown color with golden orange hues and a two finger frothy yellowish beige head that lasts, leaving soapy chunks of lacing in it’s path.
Earthy floral hop aroma with a bit of biscuit and caramel malt. There is also a good bit of citrus aroma with hints of lemon peel and grapefruit as well as some earthy dank pine.
Nice chewy resinous medium body that is very refreshing and well balanced. Caramel and biscuit malt backbone provide a nice balance to the huge hop profile without overpowering it. Plenty of fresh, dank, resinous hop flavor with hints of citrus lemon and orange peel as well as some grapefruit and nice dry earthy pine notes. Again, this is an extremely well balanced beer that I have to stop myself from pounding. An excellent session beer that I wish I had greater access to.

Aroma: Hops pouring out of this baby like crazy. Very grapefruity and some lemon. Taste is strong grapefruit as well. This beer is all about the hops, and while there is significant bitterness, it is a surprisingly soft considering the zingy grapefruit kick. I don’t even like grapefruit very much, but this is a great beer.

16 oz. can from a trade with DalzAle- thanks, Greg! Pours a clear brown-amber color with a big rocky off-white head that sticks around. Big hoppy aroma, nice and earthy, with notes of pine, caramel malts, and some light citrus notes. A big hoppy flavor follows, a variety of hops held together by a nice caramel malt backbone, with notes of citrus and such a nice balance of bitter, sweet, and malty. This isn’t complex, and that’s just fine. It’s a basic hops-malt-citrus (and light on the citrus) IPA, but it’s done so, so well. I’ve always been partial to double/imperial IPAs but this is pretty much as good as any regular IPA.
