COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Like Hops? You’ll like this fire-hued beer. This is the beer I have always dreamed of making. This is the beer that would come to mind while spending the last two years tearing down walls, hanging sheetrock, moving kegs, power washing the ceilings, arguing with various agencies, and cutting the water main. Without Golden Promise malt, made by family-owned Simpsons Malt, Furious would just be pissed offed. From Scotland, this malt is still produced in the tradition of turning over the barley by hand, resulting in a malt that is unsurpassed in its quality. Golden Promise is also used extensively by premium whisky distilleries such as The Macallan. This malt provides the backbone for the intense hop character. Four American hop varieties are used at a rate of over three pounds per barrel. The result is a rich malt sweetness infused with bright hop flavor and aroma from beginning to end. Oh yeah, it’s about 6% alcohol and around 100 IBUs.

WOW. Poured a dark amber color with good head and great lacing. Aroma was pine and citrus stong aroma. Flavor was much the same but very well balanced with the caramel malts. This is a solid IPA

Can, courtesy of Skyview! Poured a fiery, very autumnal shade of reddish-orange with a tall, sticky cap of beige head. The aroma was quite delightful.. caramel, toffee, and candied apricots sprouting and array of light fruity, floral, and pine hoppage. Flavor didn’t skip a beat.. beginning with bitter apricot and grapefruit.. followed by the sweet caramel and toffee base.. ending on more vibrant fruity and piney bitterness. Long, darker bitter finish. Medium-bodied on the palate with a syrupy foray.. high and well-presented bitterness throughout. This was crafted beautifully, and was just what I was looking for.

On tap at Mckenzies in Minneapolis. A large hop presense on the nose. A deep amber pour with a small tan head. A semi sweet start that quickly gives way to the flavor of hops. A bit of fruitiness eases through as well as an excellent bitter finish. Very smooth carbonation and mouthfeel. An ass kicker of an IPA that is smooth on the palate and hops are all over it. Very good beer.

UPDATED: NOV 6, 2007 16-oz can. Thanks, Theisti! Pours murky dark brown with golden brown highlights and a thick, sudsy off-white head. Intermittent little puffs of cumulus lacing down the sides. Big piney nose with hints of sharp grapefruit zest. Medium body, active carb, very refreshing attack with plenty of toast and pine/fruit. Nice clean-drinking mid-palate and then a big wash of piney creosote resin across the back. Nice stuff, kinda harsh, bracingly refreshing.

Can from Tytoanderso - Thanks! Pours a dark amber colow with a medium, creamy beige head. Thick lacing. Nose is intense with citrus, pine, and caramel. Flavor is full of hops, citrus and piney. The maltiness is subtle, this is lives up to the hop loaded hype. I really enjoyed this brew!

Big thanks to Quake1028 for binging this one along. I’ve been looking forward to trying it.

Pours a murky orange to copper color with off white head out of a 16oz can. Huge hop aroma of pine hop bitterness. It is simply a firm slap in the nose of citrus hops. The flavor is just like the aroma with just huge pine hop bitterness and not nearly as big grapefruit hop bitterness too. I can just sense a sweet maltiness way way in the back of the big pile of hops. Very nice true hop monster of a beer.

Pours out a deep orange red with a huge orange head on it. Aroma is awesome with piney hops rushing in your face, evergreen, and a slight caramel sweetness for balance. Taste is thick with hops, resiny, piney, and dank. The whole beer has an overall bitterness that just smacks you in the mouth and leaves you with a peppery and earthy aftertaste once the hops onslaught is over with. Once again, caramel and toffee notes are here to provide a touch of sweetness and save the day with some balance. Really good stuff, the best beer I’ve ever had out of a can. Good job Surly.

UPDATED: SEP 6, 2007 Firey, amber hued pour. Massive cascade hop aroma, like pine needles that have sat under rain for hours. Grapefruit and lemon in the flavor balance well with heavy, malty Scotch sweetness. This smacks with a flair of almond creme frosting. Finishes with a bite of spicy, crisp lemon pepper. A somewhat unusually heavy palate. Slick and dense, like a double without the ache of alcohol. Bitter, smooth hop comfort.
