UPDATED: FEB 18, 2007 Rerate: Tested this beer against 9 others, and this came out tiied for the 2nd best. Bitter orange/grapefruit flavor. Very nice!
Want hops...try this beer. It’s very hoppy and very good. It’s bitter, it’s piney, it’s not well balanced, but that’s the idea. If you don’t like hops, you won’t probably like this beer. Fortunately for me, I like hops, and therefore like this beer. I would say though that the variety of hops used is not at the very top of my list. Not that that makes this a bad beer, but there are better IPA’s out there. I don’t know how this gets classified as an amber ale. In my book, it’s an IPA all the way. Original Rating = 3.8

Pours a dark red-orange, lovely peach and pineapple nose that is complex, hoppy, and not overbearing. Great malt balance, warm and chewy, even some chocolate whispers in there, playing around in SN Celebration territory. My first time with this beer; it lives up to the hype. Great stuff!

Thanks, Bri. Pours a clear amber with medium head that sticks around for a while. The aroma is pure citrus hops that don’t stop. The taste is dominated by citrus/nug hops, but there is a solid caramel malt backing that evens out the bitterness. This is my favorite type of IPA: one that gives you tons of hop taste, without overloading you with bitterness or sugary malts. It’s definitely a bit thin and could use some more body, but it’s tough to get a balanced session IPA with this many hops....and this one is.

16 oz can, via joebrew. Pours a clear amber colored body under a creamy and foamy light beige head that left intricate fine lacing. Aroma is full of sweet malt and lots of piney citrusy hoppiness. Very clean and straightforward. Flavor is very bitter from front to back, lots of hops in the boil for this guy. A nice lingering piney finish. The malt has a minimal presence, just a little toasted note. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a moderate amount of fizzy carbonation and a slightly sticky resiny finish. Overall, a nice aggressively hopped IPA.

On tap at Kuma’s Corner. Pours red with a whitish head. I initially thought I was being served Surly Bender and was very surprised by the amount of hops that blasted my nose. Clean, defined grapefruit is all over the place along with caramel, and delving deeper, a hint of almonds. There is a continuous blast of hops throughout, especially in the finish. This is just brutally sucking the moisture out of my mouth with a lingering sting. The malts are fair, actually sporting some juicy caramel and more of a far-off toastier quality which may have merely resulted from the bitter devastation of my palate. After becoming almost acclimated to this brew, I was able to find some subtler hints of lemons and tea. This is not for the weak.

Tasted 2/25/08. 1PT Can. Fairly clear with an amber hue. Fingerwidth of khaki head. Skunky hoppy aromas with a note of blueberries. Total piney nose. Grassy and citrus. As weird as it sounds, it reminds me of the mosquito fogger that would drive through my neighborhood as a child. Hmm... Medium bodied and big. Great medium roasted malts. Toasty. Great hop palate. Spicy and piney. Grapefruity. The description on the can is spot on. Totally bitter hops but the sticky caramel malts hold on for the ride. Totally hop driven and blended. Rolling hop palate. This one sticks with you.

Firkin of tea-bagged at DLD ’10. Iced tea colored pour with no head. Intensely floral with notes of earl grey, some slight malt sweetness, loads of tasty juicy grapefruit and citrus in the middle and a long bitter finish with evergreen and juniper. Creamy medium body with low carbonation.

UPDATED: JAN 3, 2011 Can (thanks to Beerlando) [first rating of 2011]... Poured an amber/golden/orange with a thick beige head. Lots of hops on the nose, citrus, pine. Incredibly balanced and clean. Lots of citrus, passionfruit, wood and pine notes. Malts were subtle but just enough to give a good body. This was like hop nectar.
