COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Like Hops? You’ll like this fire-hued beer. This is the beer I have always dreamed of making. This is the beer that would come to mind while spending the last two years tearing down walls, hanging sheetrock, moving kegs, power washing the ceilings, arguing with various agencies, and cutting the water main. Without Golden Promise malt, made by family-owned Simpsons Malt, Furious would just be pissed offed. From Scotland, this malt is still produced in the tradition of turning over the barley by hand, resulting in a malt that is unsurpassed in its quality. Golden Promise is also used extensively by premium whisky distilleries such as The Macallan. This malt provides the backbone for the intense hop character. Four American hop varieties are used at a rate of over three pounds per barrel. The result is a rich malt sweetness infused with bright hop flavor and aroma from beginning to end. Oh yeah, it’s about 6% alcohol and around 100 IBUs.

A: Rich reddish-amber body... dense, massive off white head comprised of minuscule, tightly packed bubbles... great retention and lacing.. S: I could smell this while pouring at arms length away... delicious pine and grapefruit it what seems perfect balance... slight caramel-toffee malt background T: So close to a 5 with i could give a 4.9... well balanced grapefruit and pine hop bitterness, rich maltiness, perhaps a bit much for my preferences... M: Smooth, medium bodied, good carbonation, with a crisp finish. D: I found the drinkability on this guy through the roof. Super nice beer...

Poured from can into Nonic Imperial Pint. Dark orange-red, lava-like, persistent 1/4 inch head, lots of lacing on glass. Just gorgeous! Aroma of pine, pine and pine; some citrus and Scottish malt. Juxtaposition of pine bitterness and semi-sweet Scottish malts. It seems that there is a slight peat flavor, but maybe that is my imagination since I know about the Scottish malt. Bitter at end. Relatively low carbonation for the style. Exceedingly smooth, similar to a DIPA. Very dry. Immensely drinkable due to the flavor and smoothness, but the bitterness really builds on the taste buds. I love really bitter beer, but usually don’t want too much at once. What is this beer exactly? The high IBUs and feel makes it a DIPA, but the lower alcohol brings it back to regular American IPA status. However, it also has characteristics of a Scottish Ale. Anyway, this is a kick ass beer.

This is a great beer. It smells great when you pour it. The bitter flavor is what makes it taste so great to me. It leaves a good after taste in your mouth. By far my favorite beer I have ever tried so far. Keep in mind I have many many beers yet to try.

This is quite possibly my greatest weakness in beer. From the resinous piney smell, to the bright red-hue, to the crisp dry finish. There is never a time when I won’t drink it.

One of the better IPA’s I’ve had. Surly Furious hits you hard with the aroma of Pine Needles. It feels nice on the palate, with none of the harsh bitter aftertaste of lesser IPA’s. Freshly grated orange rind and soft pine needles on the palate. Great drinking on a cool Autumn Evening.

For my money, this is hard to beat when it’s fresh. Piney, citrusy and bitter. Terrific lacing, great ruby color, and the taste stays on your lips for hours afterward. If I lived where I could buy this, I’d be hard pressed to drink much else.

I have driven from Chicago to Minnesota just to get this beer for me and my nieghbors. I make a clone kit from northern brewer and it is always the frist keg empty. Even people who don’t like IPA’s love this beer.

My standard and also my "go to" for IPA’s. On tap at Zorbaz, Detroit Lakes, MN. Very complex citrus flavors with an aroma to match. Clean finish for such a powerful taste. Much better than two hearted IMHO. Never let me down, except for distribution. Bring it to Detroit Lakes Muni so I can have it in my bar on tap Surly!!
