From can, courtesy of dpjuart. Holy cat pee and grapefruit! Apricot, grass. Vibrant, with ozone. Mild amber clear with off-white to tan lacing head. Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Bitter beer with tons of hops. Light sweet malt, but mostly lots of bitter. A bit harsh in the finish, but not too bad.

Jul 22, 2008 Can courtesy of pepsican (Furious as an added extra!). Pours a hazy reddish amber covered by a frothy, off-white head. Excellet lacing is left, but minimal retention. Wow. Aroma of pine and tangarine hops, raspberries and toffe. Taste is decently malty enough to combat the 99 IBUs that come in like a bunch of pine needles. Some orange towards the finish and a slightly nutty aftertaste that reminds me a bit of Macallan 12. Great can of beer, and a very rich and well balanced IPA. Slightly creamy mouthfeel with nice light bubbles. Wish I could get this stuff when I am in Texas, it would be a constant presence in my fridge...guess I have to settle for Gordon or Dales cans.

Jul 19, 2008 First off, thanks to pepsican for getting me this. Pours pretty dark for an IPA, but that’s definitely not a bad thing. American hops get the aroma going on this one and give off the typical citrus profile along with a bit of a pine scent. Flavor could be described as sweet and malty with a nice hop flavor and just enough bitterness to balance it all out. I like this one a lot, but it’s very similar to a few other highly rated IPA’s aside from the color.

Jul 19, 2008 On tap. Aroma: Extremely hoppy. Tons of fruity and citrus notes. Slightly spicy with some apricot and malt. Appearance: Brown and cloudy amber with a small white head that remains pretty lacy. Flavor: Tons of citrus hops. Loads of really good malt and bitter fruit.
Palate: Medium body with a very pleasant coating of the mouth. Pretty creamy. Overall: Very good beer. Extremely bitter and hoppy, but an awesome balance with the malt. Great lingering aftertaste. If this was any more than 6%ABV it would probably screw up the nice balance.

Jul 18, 2008 Can: Courtesy of pepsican...thanks Andy. Pour is a translucent copper with small tan head with decent retention and lacing noted. Aroma hits immediately with massive doses of pine, citrus and floral hops...their is enough of a malt backbone to keep this from being too one-dimensional. Medium bodied mouth feel, slightly creamy. Very nice indeed, flavors are massive Simcoe hops and pale malts along with a bit of citrus. I must say I’m impressed with my first Surly brew.

Jul 17, 2008 a great fruity hop aroma with a smooth hoppy flavor and a nice mello after taste very enjoyalbe wish i had more then two of them.
