GAManiac (239), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Apr 29, 2008 Pours a bright hazy amber color with a big, thick two-finger head that hangs around for quite a while. Lacing is excellent. Smell is dominated by big floral and citrus hops dominated by grapefruit and lemon zest. Balanced out with a nice underlying malty sweetness. As in the smell, huge citrus hops up front balanced out by a bready malt flavor. Sweet caramel taste gives way to a piney hop bitterness in the aftertaste. Creamy mouthfeel coats the mouth in hoppy goodness but still stings the tongue with bitterness. Medium body with solid carbonation. This is one of the better IPAs I’ve tasted and would make this a staple in my fridge if I had access to it. Big and hoppy but with a nice malty balance, this one is quite nice.
dmac (814), Toms River, New Jersey, USA Aug 5, 2008 Can sampled at BCTC 2008. Pours a clear orange amber with a bubbly white head. Aroma of pine and earth, actually very reminiscent of a christmas tree. Flavor is spot on from the aroma with lots of piney hops and earth notes with some caramel malt moving into the mix as well. This was one fantastic beer and to think that it was moving from warm to hot when I finally tried it makes me wonder how awesome it will be served cold to cool. KimJohansen (2831), Copenhagen V, Denmark Aug 3, 2008 Clear amber with medium white head. Sweet and hoppy aroma with caramel and hoppy notes. Flavor likewise. Ends bitter. kosko20 (53), Bemidji, Minnesota, USA Aug 2, 2008 I love hops, and what was nice about this beer is that they are all over the place. At the brewery, Surly had a glass filled with the hops they use in Furious and I sat there just smelling them. Incredible aroma. The beer, the same aroma thats sweet. Dark golden orange color with a white head. Flavor was hops with hints of malt. Smooth with a great bitterness. mmmmm hops. jbrus (4086), Delft, Netherlands Jul 27, 2008 Can@Home. Very sweet and very fruity aroma, also light grassy. I can imagine that this aroma is getting annoying if you get it all the time but over here you don’t get it that often and so I still like it a lot. Orange/amber color, yellowish head, good lace. Very sweet but even more bitter, fruity, pine, grassy finish. Soft, flat, nasty dry in the finish. Too bitter for me and I don’t like the mouthfeel but well brewed. BMan1113VR (708), Los Angeles (and Dallas, TX), California, USA Jul 22, 2008 Can courtesy of pepsican (Furious as an added extra!). Pours a hazy reddish amber covered by a frothy, off-white head. Excellet lacing is left, but minimal retention. Wow. Aroma of pine and tangarine hops, raspberries and toffe. Taste is decently malty enough to combat the 99 IBUs that come in like a bunch of pine needles. Some orange towards the finish and a slightly nutty aftertaste that reminds me a bit of Macallan 12. Great can of beer, and a very rich and well balanced IPA. Slightly creamy mouthfeel with nice light bubbles. Wish I could get this stuff when I am in Texas, it would be a constant presence in my fridge...guess I have to settle for Gordon or Dales cans.
