crowderm (154), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA Feb 16, 2008 Pours a very thick, cloudy red/orange with a creamy off-white head that will not die. A very attractive looking beer. The aroma is thick with citrus hops - mostly grapefruit I think. The flavor is very intense - hugely bitter peppery grapefruit hops hit the tongue immediately. Fortunately there is a very sturdy malt backbone to keep the hops from overwhelming the flavor - still though, this is a very, very bitter brew. The palate is fantastic - thick and creamy. Overall an excellent beer. Another very solid effort from Surly.

Mes_and_Sim (4176), London, Greater London, England Aug 10, 2008 A Mes rate: Can at Chris O’s Pre GBBF Tasting Glorious stuff. Golden amber looks with a good off white head. Massive pine and spruce hoppage. Good earthy malt backbone. A lick of sweetness. All I could ask for from an American IPA. Great stuff. dmac (833), Toms River, New Jersey, USA Aug 5, 2008 Can sampled at BCTC 2008. Pours a clear orange amber with a bubbly white head. Aroma of pine and earth, actually very reminiscent of a christmas tree. Flavor is spot on from the aroma with lots of piney hops and earth notes with some caramel malt moving into the mix as well. This was one fantastic beer and to think that it was moving from warm to hot when I finally tried it makes me wonder how awesome it will be served cold to cool. KimJohansen (3026), Copenhagen V, Denmark Aug 3, 2008 Clear amber with medium white head. Sweet and hoppy aroma with caramel and hoppy notes. Flavor likewise. Ends bitter.
