COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Finally, a Surly beer my German mother will drink. She says this one tastes like a bier from back home. Not unlike a Zwickel Bier from Germany, Hell is our filtered and fermented with lager yeast, American hops takes a back seat to the Pils malt sweetness and fresh bread aroma. The color is well... hell (Deutsch for light). Itís fiendishly drinkable, and you donít have to sell your soul to get another.

Pours a 2 finger clear straw color with moderate lacing. Rich, toasted malt and a touch of breadiness. Background of mild grassy hops. Mildly sweet with a hint of tartness tooo. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Medium finish that is primarily toasted malt. This is actually very good! Got this brew from STLDrew! Thanks man!

16 ounce can courtesy of AWISLguy, opened Halloween 2014. Trick or treat! Pours a slightly hazy amber with a medium sized foamy white head. Decent head retention. Aroma of doughy malt, spicy and grassy hops. The taste is grainy malt, doughy malt, apple, grassy hops. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, decent balance. Nice beer.

Tap at Pub 42. Pours clear golden color with minimal head. Smells of wheat and grass. Taste a little sweet with the hops in the backround. Dry finish...easy drinking. Good beer.

Can thanks to Will. Poured into a red solo cup. Ice cold cooler temp. Banana lager esters on the nose. Freezes my nose the harder I inhale. Crackery malts. Nice carb. Slightly dry. Looks cloudy. Tastes like a dry biscuit without butter or jam. Did I mention itís cold?

Draft. Light golden body with a frothy white head, rapidly diminishing. Aroma of grass, toasted grain, herbs. Hint of floral hops. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Clean malts, grass taste in finish. Solid dortmunder.

A little sweet on the profile, thin body, doesnít seem to take advantage of the fresh hop nature of canning such a beer. However, kudos for packaging it in pint cans, and a clean refreshing finish. Sessionable.

Originally had this in a can, thanks to Bacterial. But, it was delicious and I crushed it before rating. Now itís unexpectedly on draft in Seattle, and Iím going to punt on it again. Clear gold with offwhite head, great lacing. Fruit, spicy, and eminently crushable. Light body, smooth and easy. 1-word summary: crushable.

Pint at Mill City. Pours a mostly clear orange color with a small white head. A light banana ester nose. Lemon, biscuit, banana, light spices. Solid.

Draft pour at the Toronado Seattle opening. Pours a clear yellow with a soft and sweet, light lemon aroma. Nice barley and grain flavors with a good mild hop finish. Usually stay away from lagers, but Iím quite impressed with this one. Nice easy drinking, flavorful beer. Memorable. Good beer.

16oz can from Four Firkins. Golden yellow. Aroma of straw and light fruits. Some bread a touch of earth. Smooth. Not a favorite style but very drinkable. The drinkability makes it easy to see why it is one of their two top sellers. 12.6
