On tap. Perceived strength of this beer has been really amped up without an ABV boost. I think I prefer the original though.

Cask @ Darkness Day 2012. Pours a reddish brown appearance with light bubbly, tan head. Quite rich and fresh oaky, tannic, vanilla, somewhat nutty aroma. Tannin forward, grain woody, nutty, toasty malty, toffee flavor. One of my favorites that I tasted during Darkness Day.

Cask. Additional oak goes with the brown ale base wich is good but not amazing. Smooth mouthfeel.

Had on cask at darkness day. Like the bender but the oak aroma and taste was a nice addition.

Minnesota Winterfest 2012. Dark brown color with a small head. Very light malt aroma. Light roasted malt flavor. Slight oak hints. Thin bodied.

on tap, iced tea colored pour with tan foam, aroma is faint roast caramels, flavors of honey, caramel, weak roast, watery finish

Pours deep brown/black with off white head, aroma is oak, roast, smoke, and dark fruit. Taste up front is a nice blend starting with roasted smoke leading into oak notes that finishes smoky and a bit bitter. Nice and smooth, sessionable, and tasty.

7oz sample at Stub & Herbs. Murky ruby brown pour with no head, but my sample was poured out of a pitcher that was already half poured at the bar. Aroma is brown sugar, spice and a touch of vanilla and citruis. Flavor contained a lot of the oak, roasted nuts, molasses and some vanilla.

Draft sample at Stub & Herbs. Ruby brown in colour with low carbonation. Aromas are of oak, exotic fruit, vanilla, and some savory spice. Very oak and vanilla forward in the mouth, along with cooking spices, caramel, and some toasted nits. Slick mouthfeel. A bit too much oak seems to thow this one off balance. Not bad in a smaller serving size, but a whole pint of this stuff was too much for me.
