COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Itís been said; "Itís easier to brew an extremely hoppy beer than an extremely balanced beer." And you know us, we are always looking for the easy way out, so we jumped on the West Coast IPA bandwagon and brewed this dry and hoppy ale. "Surlyís a little bit of a one-trick pony, they just brew gimmick beers," and maybe we are OVERRATED, but at the end of the day, itís just a beer. If you like it, great, so do we. If you only liked us when we were small, then leave this one on the shelf. Let one of the fanboys grab it.

Purchased at Binnyís in Chicago, IL; enjoyed at home on a snowy Saturday pre-holiday party afternoon. Appearance is a lightly cloudy bright gold with a very pronounced white lightly bubbly head. Aroma is a mixture of citrus and cone hops. Taste finishes nice and dry with grassy notes, light spice, lemon, floral. Itís well balanced and pretty good, nothing groundbreaking, just a solid IPA. Well done!

On tap at Dark Lord Day 2013, served in a tasting glass. Pours hazy amber with a large, frothy white head that remains and laces well. The nose has big pine and flowers, along with resin and caramel with a hint of subtle spice. The flavour is medium-bitter with notes of spice, pepper, pine, flowers and some tropical fruit. This is balanced with a medium caramel-honey sweetness. The finish is long and hoppy with peppery notes and flowers. On the palate it is medium-full in body with a creamy texture and average carbonation. Overall, this is a very nice IPA with good balance. The nose is nice and hoppy but malts are not neglected. 2013-04-27

Pours light orange with thin tan head. Aroma is deep pine and citrus hops. Light and bitter in the front. Bit of caramel and malt. Not bad.

16 oz. can purchased at Binnyís, Lincoln Park location with a canning date of 11/13/13. Orange color with fast drying head in a snifter. The nose is mostly pine and traces of herbal hops. Large amount of pale malts balance the pine, citrus and herbal hops. Flavor has more malt then hops. Iím sure the hops are dying in this can or Surly named this IPA correctly. Clever name that kind of lives up to the beer itself. The weakest offering Iíve sampled from this top notch brewery.

Golden color. Super hoppy, with a mix of pine and citrus, with grapefruit and orange peel pith. Not much malt to speak of, and thatís OK by me. A one trick pony, but it sure is a nice trick.

Can shared by alexsdad06. Poured clear copper color with an average frothy off-white head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Solid smooth resin and citrus hop aroma. Medium to abundant body with a slick texture with soft carbonation. Medium to heavy bittersweet flavor with a medium to heavy bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration. Solid drinkable brew

Bright Orange and sticky lacing. Quite resinous and piney on the nose. Very nice. Lots of sweetness and crystal malts. Piney with needles and sticky / dank. Very nice.

Bright honey-gold. Citrus-pine aroma. Taste - clean grapefruity hops dominate. Medium bodied crackery malt backbone. Faint fruity notes too. This is a well-balanced, refreshing, and easy-drinking IPA. Lacks the depth of the great ones but this is very nice. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
