It’s been said; "It’s easier to brew an extremely hoppy beer than an extremely balanced beer." And you know us, we are always looking for the easy way out, so we jumped on the West Coast IPA bandwagon and brewed this dry and hoppy ale. "Surly’s a little bit of a one-trick pony, they just brew gimmick beers," and maybe we are OVERRATED, but at the end of the day, it’s just a beer. If you like it, great, so do we. If you only liked us when we were small, then leave this one on the shelf. Let one of the fanboys grab it.

On tap at Darkness day then later on tap at Hard Rock Café at Mall of America then finally purchased a 4 pack to bring home. Poured into a tulip glass a dark yellow with a nice off white head. Aroma is woody hops. Flavor is in your face pine tree with a touch of sweetness. This brew blew me away at SDD and can’t get enuff of it. A die hard hop head like me can be satisfied with so many brews yet this one calls my name like a moth to a flame. LOVE!

Poured from can into tulip. Opaque gold color with sticky white head. Smell has lots of citrus and pine hops, with a little light malt hiding in the background. Flavor is all hops, with sharp bitter pine in the front, citrus fruit in the middle, and resin dryness in the finish. Medium body, with a sticky feel. Overall, a really good beer, good example of the style.

Draught at CBC 2014. Clear orange liquid with a medium off-white head. Aroma of tangerine, bread, grain, citrus and mango. Taste is dry and medium to high bitter with notes of tangerine, bread and citrus. Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Really good IPA. Came back for several more samples.

Tap at CBC 2014. Beer in the glass deep golden, small head. Fine hoppy aroma. Starts mild hoppy, fine fruity like apricot, light soapy notes. Okay.

Draft at Churchkey. Thanks, Corey, for bringing this to DC! Hazy yellow gold color, huge white head with good lacing and retention. Has the scent of a woman sitting in a meadow. Taste is bittersweet lemon flowers.

Can gifted by RussianDragon. Thanks Dave. The beer is light golden orange with a half inch of white head. Aromas of pine, melon, orange, cantaloupe, sweet citrus. Tangy and hop forward with some biscuit malt presence. Tasty.

Draft at the brewery! Similar golden color to the Bitter Brewer ... First impression: West Coast indeed! This is a fun drinker, with a definite bitter twist, California-in-Minnesota all the way. (#5651, 8/28/2014)

16 oz can purchased at Haskell’s. Bottled 7.22.14, so relatively fresh. Pours an absolutely clear amber/orange color with a thick creamy off white head that fades to thick lacing and a spotty uneven head that covers the meniscus, drifting to the rim. Active carbonation; small bubbles are seen moving from the bottom of the glass to the surface. Aroma is dank resinous hop bitterness with slight citrus in the form of grapefruit. Flavor is big and bold juicy hop bitterness that is overall balanced with grapefruit citrus. Medium bodied, full active carbonation, bitter pine finish. Delicious.
