It’s been said; "It’s easier to brew an extremely hoppy beer than an extremely balanced beer." And you know us, we are always looking for the easy way out, so we jumped on the West Coast IPA bandwagon and brewed this dry and hoppy ale. "Surly’s a little bit of a one-trick pony, they just brew gimmick beers," and maybe we are OVERRATED, but at the end of the day, it’s just a beer. If you like it, great, so do we. If you only liked us when we were small, then leave this one on the shelf. Let one of the fanboys grab it.

Hazy golden pour, with a big foamy white head, aroma strongly pine and grapefruit hops, some other citrus as well. Some tropical fruit as well. Strongly bitter, with resinous hops, slight sweetness, pretty well balanced beer. Tough to compare against furious.. Still great

Good stuff. Bitter, but not as intensely as much of the west coast stuff. Also has a nice citrusy, juicy flavor to it. It is a little rough around the edges as the flavors don't totally meld, but still good ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

16oz can brought from MN by the boys. Was supposed to be Furious for the Desert IPA-land tasting, but wound up being just a sub, and a low finisher. Pours yellowish orange, unclear, with a white head leaving some lacing. Aroma has pine & some citrus with toffee and faint fresh fruits. Taste is of pine and grapefruit and some resin, with buttery toffee malts underneath. Not a fluid balance, IMO. Light to medium bodied, and quite dry. Finishes definitely to the bitter side of bittersweet. Not a lot of life or distinction in this one, which is a disappointment coming from quite a strong brewery.

golden color, pours a lovely small head that quickly dissipates leaving a thin lacing. tastes of resiny pine with some citrus, with a slightly sweet, dry finish. Surly isn’t always complex but very solid.

Thanks card04 for this; it was much appreciated after quite a while of rating crappy euromacros from the Kenora LC. Light amber body with white head that doesn’t last too long but leaves some nice lacing. Aroma of pine, sweet grains, molasses, a little resinous. Taste is nicely bitter but unlike the sarcastic description it does have a nice sweet balance to it as well. Another quality brew from Surly.

A great ipa. Aromas of dank resin and citrus. Some pineapple too. Nice peach pour with full bodied mouth feel. Flavours are sweet citrus and tropical fruit followed by a bracing spicy hop bitterness. Awesome.
