It’s been said; "It’s easier to brew an extremely hoppy beer than an extremely balanced beer." And you know us, we are always looking for the easy way out, so we jumped on the West Coast IPA bandwagon and brewed this dry and hoppy ale. "Surly’s a little bit of a one-trick pony, they just brew gimmick beers," and maybe we are OVERRATED, but at the end of the day, it’s just a beer. If you like it, great, so do we. If you only liked us when we were small, then leave this one on the shelf. Let one of the fanboys grab it.

Aroma has hops, apricot, some fruity hops and some caramel. Flavour is sweetish and heavy with fruity hops and distant gluey notes. Decent, but does not really stand out.

Drank from the can. Nice big fresh hoppy aroma, piney, citrusy, lightly fruity. Initial hop flavor is much of the aroma but more piney. Fair amount of caramel malt character follows and finishes with a decent amount of bitterness, lingers slightly.

Un nez intéressant d’ananas cuits, pin, tarte au citron, purée de mangue mais en bouche les malts sont têtus et une étrange verdure s’infiltre à travers les tons fruités.

Can... Clear golden pour with a small, creamy, off-white head. The bouquet boasts pine, grapefruit and spicy hops. Medium to full-bodied with tingly carbonation. This is pretty damn bitter, tongue-numbing and sandpapery. Lingering, bitter aftertaste. Can courtesy of BVery!

UPDATED: APR 3, 2014 Gotta say: I really like the copy on the can and I think it makes me like this beer more than I would otherwise. As it says, this is a great big IPA and it’s dry and super bitter. This style has always worked for me and I am always happy to try another. In this case, the beer is a slightly hazed orange color w/ a wispy white head of mixed-size bubbles. Nose is mostly citrus and pine but there is a faint note of lavender in the background which seems to come out more once the beer is tasted. There is a very slight sweetness to this, just a bit of sugar that floats over the top of the tongue to be demolished by a hefty smack of bitterness in the finish. As it warms, the texture thickens a bit and brings out some juicy citrus notes. Definitely, seeking this out is a no-brainer if you are into this kind of beer.
