It’s been said; "It’s easier to brew an extremely hoppy beer than an extremely balanced beer." And you know us, we are always looking for the easy way out, so we jumped on the West Coast IPA bandwagon and brewed this dry and hoppy ale. "Surly’s a little bit of a one-trick pony, they just brew gimmick beers," and maybe we are OVERRATED, but at the end of the day, it’s just a beer. If you like it, great, so do we. If you only liked us when we were small, then leave this one on the shelf. Let one of the fanboys grab it.

A fine white sticky head and it has a clear gold like color in my glass. The aroma is of pale malted barley, mild floral hops, and citrus. As for flavor it was malty, mildly bitter and hoppy, lite on citrus notes, and a subtle yeast flavor. The finish is similar to the initial flavor. It left a taste of grains, hops, bitterness, and yeast in my mouth that faded. Overall I think it is said best on the can what’s with hype?

Can from Atom, thanks! 4.30.2013 can. Pours a hazy golden color with very little head. Aroma is dank cat piss, some garlic/green onion and mild pine. Taste is bitter initially but then goes into a more sweet/apple thing that isn’t totally cool. Just seems a bit off but nothing horrible. Definite west coast IPA elements here but not balanced out. Odd lingering bitter mouth residue.

Can. A golden beer with a lazing beige head. The aroma has notes straw, hops, citrus fruits, and malt. The flavor is sweet with notes malt, caramel, straw, and herbal hops, leading to a bitter finish. Thanks yespr, the number TWO rater, for rushing to the MIkkeller store in the middle of our tasting.

(sample courtesy of Mark, thanks!; brewed in April) Pours a clear golden with little, white head. Decent lace. Aroma is a relatively subtle citrus, floral hoppy experience. Oily texture, medium carbonation, medium body and a slightly sweet finish. Flavour is largely similar to the nose.
