Itís been said; "Itís easier to brew an extremely hoppy beer than an extremely balanced beer." And you know us, we are always looking for the easy way out, so we jumped on the West Coast IPA bandwagon and brewed this dry and hoppy ale. "Surlyís a little bit of a one-trick pony, they just brew gimmick beers," and maybe we are OVERRATED, but at the end of the day, itís just a beer. If you like it, great, so do we. If you only liked us when we were small, then leave this one on the shelf. Let one of the fanboys grab it.

Dark golden color with ample amount of white head. Smells of pine, citrus, bread, grass. An initial honey like sweetness, decent hop bite but not as harsh as I was expecting. A little spicy near the end with some lingering hop bitter on the tongue. Pretty typical IPA, not bad, but a little boring. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Can at Bruceís in London during Jackís farewell tasting. Pours clear gold with a light, creamy white head. Some drying citrus in the nose, hints of anise, tangerine. Medium sweet flavor, some dry pale malts, tangerine, grapefruit, general pithy citrus. Medium bodied with fine, massaging carbonation. Mild resinous pine to finish, dry pine needles too, decent bitterness, grapefruit peel, tangerine. Very nice.

Hazy apricot under a trembling white foam. Abundant pine needles and zesty grapefruit rind from the hops dominate any other aromatic subtleties that may be hiding beneath. Lean textured with mostly pale malts and a fresh carbonation, bright and engaging leaning a gently tannic texture. Straightforward hop profile with citrus and piney resins that last yet are never overly agressive. Confident bitterness, generous but fresh and not out of balance compared to the aromas. Possibly not at its freshest state as it appears to be a Spring seasonal, but still quite perfumey from as soon as the can is cracked open. A very honest, simple but efficient, above average IPA that does not stand out, but fills its hopfix role nicely and is something I acn go myself visiting more frequently if it were local.

12 oz can. Thanks d! Pours a clear pale amber with a loose white head. Bright mango and grapefruit nose. Tangy. Creamy medium body with lively carb. Toasty caramel with mango and grapefruit on the mid palate. Soft finish.

Can purchased at Connecticut St Liquors in Washington DC July 2013 sampled august 2013. I was looking forward to having this one. Pours lightly hazy orange with a small fizzy white head that remained around the rim of the glass. nose is very citric, total west coast worship here-pine, grapefruit, lite tropical notes, catty, cheese. flavors are a bit more lite than i was expecting, mostly floral and tropical notes with a touch of grapefruit. The beer is almost 2 months old so i bet fresh, it was even better. this is the beer i was expecting with their Furious. There is some lite metallic notes long into the finish with touches of grapefruit, resin and pine. Not a bad IPA by any means. I would love to have it fresh on tap!

Can from Zipps liquor. Pours orange with a thin white head. Slight Pine on the nose and tongue. Finishes clean. I donít know if this is overrated. I think itís perfectly rated.

Bottle cheers to Ranga Jackson. Pours hazy golden with a small, firm white head leaving great lacing and good head retention. Great looking beer and nose is great too - very tropical and fruit forward. Quite punchy with sweet pungent fruit notes. Taste shows dried fruits and some light pine but falls off the mark quickly unfortunately. A good beer with a good mouth feel but it just ends far too quickly on the palate. Nice enough stuff though

Yea Iím definitely a Fanboy of Surly...paid $7 for 1 can! And it was worth it! Hoppy, dry witha quick finish and super satisfying. Itís got a big nose and plenty of hops. Surly isnít overrated, they make great beer! Including this one!

Pours a slightly hazy bright orange gold color witha big white head of foam with great retention and lacing. A great looking beer. Aroma is one note with a sweet orange and grapefruit smell. Taste is quite bitter and resinous with a pithy orange and grapefruit flavor. Finishes dry with a lingering bitter that isnít too harsh. Mouthfeel is somewhat oily with a light/medium body and high carbonation. A little surprised Ethan this wasnít better coming from Surly. Good but not very nuanced.
