Itís been said; "Itís easier to brew an extremely hoppy beer than an extremely balanced beer." And you know us, we are always looking for the easy way out, so we jumped on the West Coast IPA bandwagon and brewed this dry and hoppy ale. "Surlyís a little bit of a one-trick pony, they just brew gimmick beers," and maybe we are OVERRATED, but at the end of the day, itís just a beer. If you like it, great, so do we. If you only liked us when we were small, then leave this one on the shelf. Let one of the fanboys grab it.

Tried this new Surly offering from can poured into a pint glass. Golden blonde color with white two finger head. Moderate lacing. Bitterness is strong and the aromas are citrus resin. Just a notch below Furious - which is high praise sir...

Pours a clear, golden-copper with thin head. Grassy, floral, hop aroma. Flavor is dominated by hop bitterness, with citrus notes and a small, underlying, malty sweetness. Full, clean mouthfeel. Very bitter finish.

16 oz. can. Strong, dry, hoppy aroma features citrus, tonic water, and pine scents. Pours a deep, clear gold with a small amount of slow-rising bubbles and a large amount of thick, uneven, light cream-colored head. Produces nice lacing. Sharp, woody, salty, briny, dry, and tangy flavor features tonic water, pine, lemon, and grapefruit elements. Flavorful. Umami aftertaste. Classic Surly softness. Lively in the palate. Very good IPA across the board, though not quite as good as the fantastic Furious.

This is not the in-your-face hop slap you get with most Surly brews. Hops in the nose and definitely hops on the tongue. Hops lean towards the piney. But the hops aren't the only show. Decent malt base. Good body with some substance, not thin. Leaves the lips a bit sticky. This is an IPA that could easily be a session. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Can. Pours a clean, clear honey amber color with a sticky white head. Nice lacing so far as it settles. Grassy and floral notes in the nose. Some citrus rind as well. Medium mouthfeel. Hop flavors up front with the aforementioned aroma notes. Level of bitterness builds from slight to strong at the end. Ends rather cleanly after the strong finish. Maybe a hint of soapiness as well. Overall, pretty tasty but leaves me wondering where this plays with Surlys other hoppy offerings.

Medium gold pour with a medium foamy white head. aroma is caramel, grapefruit citrus. Biscuity malt as well. Flavour leans more towards the piney. Light tropical fruit and some citrus peel too. Still has a decent biscuity malt backing.

Great pour with a clear golden amber color. Excellent mouthfeel with a lingering bite-y-ness. Overall a solid go to IPA. Overrated? ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Picked up a four-pack at Heritage Liquors in Maplewood, MN. Pours a clear golden amber colored IPA with an average sized head that slowly dissipates and leaves behind some excellent lacing. Aroma of 3 Cís hops, grapefruit, citrus, a hint of pine and golden grain malt. Taste is medium bodied, average carbonation with more tropical fruit detected than in aroma. Finish has plenty of citrus hop profile with not the lingering bitterness.

Awesome West Coast IPA. Canned on 4/2/13 -- poured from can into a tulip. Big piney aroma and flavor with hints of grapefruit. Dry finish. I could, and will, drink a lot of these! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
