4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: JUN 2, 2013 Whoa! The boys at Surly are at it AGAIN! They are about nothing if it isnít beer and ales with attitude! It would be real easy to compare this to Furious or Abrasive and Iím sure most will. I would like to take it on itís own merits as if I didnít know of their other offerings. Poured from 16oz can to tulip. Canned on 5-8-13 and enjoyed 6-1-13. No ABV or IBU info on the can is clearly a big FU to brewers of a lesser god. First the aroma. Youíve just dug yourself out of a moist hop mound at the edge of a grapefruit grove when suddenly a massive Norway pine falls on your nut sack.. There you have it. Hold up playa..there is still so much more. There is also a nutty, earthy , lemony/ tangerine thing that wants to have a word with you. The IPA is of a soft warm hazy yellow gold with a minimal white head as poured in the tulip. There is a nice stickiness to the lacing. Seriously hopheads, from the first taste this is one of those beers that you know you will be buying again. This is not a palate wrecker. Itís a hop love letter XOXOXO! The freshest Texas grapefruit is the first burst on the tongue. The resinous pine, the citrus and the just right sweetness of the stone and tropical fruit flavors envelope the entire palate. Ka-POW! Itís a conundrum, this is a hop bomb, but itís a smart hop bomb. Itís not trying to blow you up as much as make you gently surrender. Well: "My hands are in the air like I just donít care."

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Can thanks to Jerome for bringing me back a 4pack while out there for work... Pours a slightly hazy medium transparent orange brown hue and topped with a creamy like white head... Citrusy tangerine upfront in the aroma with hints of supporting notes of florals on the backend. A touch of dough and and pale malt backing while letting the former take centerstage. Not bad... Flavors are a continuation of the same other citrus hop forwardness with a biscuity pale malt backing. A touch more leafy green and pithy bitterness on the backend that extends well into the finish. The finish is assertive and gives the palate a lashing for lack of a better word. Medium bodied with crisp carbonation. Pretty standard middle of the road ipa with a big bitter finish. Pretty good.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Thanks to Bob for the can! Poured brilliant golden with a tall, dense, creamy white head. The aroma picked up juicy tropical fruits and grassy hoppage over a simple, sweet caramel base.. no complaints. The flavor found semi-sweet pale, caramel, and biscuity malts at the core with fresh orange, grassy, and lesser floral bitterness around.. finished bitter, but balanced, leaning toward the tropical and grassy hops. Medium-bodied and quite bitter on the palate.. well-balanced and mighty tasty.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
bottle share at BW - pre-hill farmstead 3rd anniversary. hazy pale yellow with a low white head, minimal retention. almost fresh citrus, lightly boozy, herbal, some pepper, disturbing apple juice. average to soft carbonation, light body, nice citrusy finish. good balance. all in all... it does seem to fall short.. at least to my expectations.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a slightly cloudy golden with a white head. Aroma is potent and clean. Lots of fruity citrus, including mango, pineapple, hints of lime and grapefruit. Underneath I find caramel. There is some pine in here that is balanced well with the fruitiness. The taste is an explosion of pine and hops. Much of the citrus impressions are no longer found, which will be just fine for some. The pine and hops just overpower any other taste. Its very dry with an excellent hoppy kick. Not surprisingly, this is the aftertaste as well, and lingers on your palate. Medium bodied with lots of carbonation in here. This is one extreme IPA, and pretty much what Iím looking for in this style. My only regret is that it isnít available in my part of the world. So the novelty factor is pretty high with this one.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pine dank dough and caramel on the nose, hints of vanilla, and light citrus as well. Pours golden amber, slight off white head and lace. Flavors of caramel and dough up front followed by pine and dank, slight citrus, earthy wood notes. Lingering sweet doughiness. Smooth but seemingly malt forward.
