It’s been said; "It’s easier to brew an extremely hoppy beer than an extremely balanced beer." And you know us, we are always looking for the easy way out, so we jumped on the West Coast IPA bandwagon and brewed this dry and hoppy ale. "Surly’s a little bit of a one-trick pony, they just brew gimmick beers," and maybe we are OVERRATED, but at the end of the day, it’s just a beer. If you like it, great, so do we. If you only liked us when we were small, then leave this one on the shelf. Let one of the fanboys grab it.

Can. Clear golden color, nice head retention, moderate lacing. Bright citrusy hop aroma, fragrant. Excellent bitter flavor, a bit fruity, with a faintly detectable grain malt character toward the end. Another great beer from surly.

Pours a nice light orange with an off white head that starts big and quickly dissipates leaving spotty lacing. Aromas are tropical fruit, citrus, bread, and a touch of grass. Flavors are nicely citrus and then a big hint of tropical (guava and maybe young mango), some malt hints dance around on the edges all topped off with a big dose of grassy/piney bitterness that flows into a long dry aftertaste. Palate is a tad thin on this and they head and carbonation are just a little wanting. Overall, a very nice and balanced WC IPA that I would rate right up with the big dogs. It’s not as balanced as my two favorite IPAs but darn close.

Pours clear golden with a white head that slowly goes away. This is certainly a classic west coast ipa! Grapefruit, pine, citrus with a nice hop bite, balanced nicely from the malt. Good stuff maynerd.

16 oz. can thanks to khoffman43. Pours a clear gold with a moderate white head that lasted until nearly mid-glass and laced the glass well. Very pleasant aroma that is filled with grapefruit with notes of ornage and pine as well. Very citrusy and fruity. The flavor begins with malt, but that is quickly overrun by substantial hops bitterness consisting of grapefruit, again with notes of orange and pine. Strong, sharp bitterness at the finish. Frankly it was a bit much for me and gave me heartburn.

Can @ a recent tasting... Poured golden with a nice forming white head. This was awesome. Definitely in my top IPAs for 2013 so far. Crisp, big and bright hop notes. Loads of hop flavor without being too bitter. Citrus and tropical fruits in there too with a dab of doughy malts. Nailed that crisp, west coast IPA flavor for sure.

Pours clear golden with a nice creamy white head. The aroma is quite nice, loving the juicy citrus hops that are with a bit of a malty profile that works well with the hops. The flavor is similar bringing a nice hop bite, just the right bitterness there that settles well on the palate. The dryness is right on the money, but there is still a refreshing juiciness to the body and flavor of the brew.

Bottle shared at GTMW line, pours a clear orange with a light white head and some lacing in the glass, the aroma has quite a bit of tropical fruits, some pineapple and grapefruit, nothing crazy but nice, the flavor has a nice smooth front end with some citrus and tropical fruit in the finish, pretty nice.

16 oz can into a tulip glass. Canned on 04/02/13. A - Pours a clear amber body. Two fingers of white foam with sticky lacing and lasting retention. Looks good for a filtered IPA. S - Tropical fruit into huge pine. Very juicy and fresh with a dash of bready malts. Even at a month old its still smelling damn good. T - Pine, grapefruit, and crackery malts. Dry yet juicy. Not as great as the nose and actually rather boring. Seems to just be missing something. Slick and creamy mouth feel. O - A damn solid IPA even with a few weeks on it. Very lacking compared to Surly’s other hoppy brews. Dig the tongue in cheek idea behind it too.

5/4/13. 16oz can thanks to CLevar. That guy fucking. lifts. Not quite clear orange pour with a nice khaki head that lasts and laces decently. Rich tropical fruits in the aroma, guava etc, with plenty of citrus. Nice citrus, tropical fruits, doughy malts, and a big dry finish that begs you to shotgun another can... but I only have one. Oh well. Krunk.

Pounder->SA. Light copper with small white head. Aroma: citrus and pine hops. Taste: bitter pine, notes of citrus. Straightforward, good.
