It’s been said; "It’s easier to brew an extremely hoppy beer than an extremely balanced beer." And you know us, we are always looking for the easy way out, so we jumped on the West Coast IPA bandwagon and brewed this dry and hoppy ale. "Surly’s a little bit of a one-trick pony, they just brew gimmick beers," and maybe we are OVERRATED, but at the end of the day, it’s just a beer. If you like it, great, so do we. If you only liked us when we were small, then leave this one on the shelf. Let one of the fanboys grab it.

Can from Conn Ave Liquor in DC. Thanks Al! Pours light honey golden, on the lighter side of the color scale for the style. Foam is not dense and scatters quickly along the surface to spotty islands of fizzy white. Aromas are faint of citrus and resin, but very faint. Almost no malt to speak of in the nose either. Taste is a step up! Hops forward with semi-dank resinous pine and citrus flavors, before a sweet-to-smooth mid-to-late palate, with a clean crisp finish. Not the greatest West Coast IPA by a long shot, but I will say that I REALLY like the way the citrus (and maybe some tropical?) fruit notes dominate this beer. Good stuff... damn, really good stuff

16 oz can purchased at Princeton’s Liquors in Maple Grove, Minnesota. Canned on 7/2/13. The pour is a hazed golden copper with a smallish off white head. The aroma is floral resin, leafy hops with some caramel malt. The taste is a nice balance between the resin floral and the lightly sweet caramel, cracker, malt. Quite fresh and tasty. The palate is medium bodied, soft carbonation, and a dry resin mineral finish. Nice beer.

Tap at OBF. Pours dark gold with a creamy white head. Aroma is hops over cooked malt. Med body. Flavor is quite hoppy - leading to a burn. Not harsh. Smooth compared to many NW IPAs. Seems primarily citrus. Very good.

One of the two beers I was most looking forward at the OBF and did not disappoint. Takes the grapefruit hops right to edge and teeter there, balanced by honey and toast. Fresh hop aroma of leaf and resin, with a little lemon and honey. clean finish.

On draught at 26th Oregon Brewers Festival. Golden color with lots of head. Astringent aroma with some nice fruity hops underneath. Taste is much better, with tropical hops, some caramel resin notes, and little bitterness. Not too bitter finish.

Kind of dry and sweet with a whiff of apricot to be had by the bold and fastidious.
