3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Very tasty beer - probably Surlyís best sour offering yet. Deep reddish pour with a quickly fading off-white head. Aroma is about what you would expect from a good example of the style - ripe dark fruits, wine, a little tobacco. The flavor is solid, but doesnít quite live up the nose. The sourness in this beer is "broad" in that it hits early and lingers well into the finish, but it never quite reaches the brilliant, refreshing heights of some of the best Belgians. I could also do with a little more malt sweetness to back the sourness. Palate is spot on for the style. Overall a great beer.

Bottle share @ Surly Darkness day 2013. Pour is deep ruby with a medium sized off-white head that fades quickly. Aroma is of tart fruit, acidic funk, port wine, and grain. Flavor is similar with a large amount of raspberry jam thrown in. Mild vinegar in the finish.

Delicious sour beer!!! I only had a small taste at a beer share but would love to drink this again. Sour in the nose up front and following thru all day long in the flavor.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a deep ruby, almost black... itís got a small head that leaves some lacing on the glass.
The aroma is nicely pungent, itís got a mild balsamic vinegar note, plenty of dark berries, and some light woodiness. Itís funky and a touch lemony.
The flavor is fruity & sour, itís got some nice dark berry flavor. Itís really nicely tart and not overly vinegary. Modestly dry, cool, & easy to drink. Would re-pete.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle: † Deep burnt brown sugar, reddish notes, dirty and thick, moderate frothy off-white head, spotty lacing. † Soft to moderate nose of unripened cherries and wood. † Sweet vinegar as well. † Comes across on the nose as a somewhat pedestrian Sour Red/Brown. † Minor tartness up front, slightly dry, witih both ripened and unripened cherries. † I would say ripened only because this one isnít too sour, only slightly tart. † Has a slight woody aspect, assuming from barrel aging. † Body and mouthfeel are moderate. † Finishes like a very mild and pedestrian Sour Red/Brown. † Both new and young cherries, sweet vinegar, and woody aspects. † Decent, but could stand to be much drier and sour. † Thanks Bob!

3.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours ruby. Aroma is funky, sour, and a little wood. The taste follows the aroma and adds more wood and red wine from the barrels with a touch of chocolate and tobacco. The brett provides a nice tart funk without being too much. Pentagram is dark and evil. Sour, tart mouthfeel but also chewy. Extra points for the sick bottle art and wax seal!!
