On Draught.
Pours a reddish brown with a big fluffy off white head that leaves some lacing on the glass.

Aroma is lightly sweet, malty and woody up front. It’s lightly chocolaty, mildly fruity, and clean smelling.

The flavor is malt forward, mildly roasty, softly bitter and only lightly sweet. The beer has flavors reminiscent of chocolate, toffee, nuttiness and red apple. The oak is very mild but noticeable and well complimented to the overall flavor of the beer.

Lightly cloudy reddish brown, light white head. Smells of a light funkiness, some vanilla, earthy, musty. A little slight bitter bite upfront that slowly mellows into a pleasant sweetness. Medium light body, slightly effervescent, bit of carbonation. Very drinkable, interesting. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a dark copper-brown with small, lingering head. Aroma of malt, bread, caramel. Flavor was very smooth, with the oak quite distinct, along with a lot of sweet malt, caramel, coffee, etc.

2 oz. or smaller pour, on tap at St. Paul Summer Beer Fest. Consumed on 6-7-14. Pours a bright, light to medium brown with a red/amber hue and taupe head. Juicy, German aroma. Tangy flavor includes citrus and lemon elements as well as roastedness. Soft and crisp in the palate. It’s interesting that Surly was able to produce its classic soft palate effect in a lager. Light to medium body. Another solid effort from Surly, although not one of their better beers overall, mainly because it is hard to excel in the Dunkel style. More aromatic and flavorful than is typical in the style or among non-big lagers in general.
