COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is a Dunkel we brewed and aged on oak for CBC in Chicago. Some kegs will stay in Minnesota too.

Guest tap at Dark Lord Day 2011. Pours a cloudy brown colored body with a finger-width, creamy, tan head that dissipates slowly and leaves a moderate lacing. Aroma is rich caramel with some bread, dark fruits, a light cocoa, and a touch of earth. Flavor is similar. Nice caramel up front with a light, earthy cocoa and some bready malts. Pleasant, clean lager-like fruits before this finishes with a light bitterness. A touch of roast in there before leaving a medium length aftertaste. Light, smooth body and moderate, soft carbonation. Overall, a tasty lager. Nothing crazy, but well balanced and easy drinking.

UPDATED: MAY 12, 2013 It’s a very drinkable dark beer, pretty light on the mouth but has a nice lasting roasty flavor. Can’t get enough of this beer this year, its a target at all the summer festivals.

Tap. Cola brown in color with a small off white head. Light bread aroma, slight roast coffee. Just too light. Taste is caramel, slight chocolate, and sweet cream. Slightly dry with a creamy and fairly light body.

Enjoyed as a guest draft at Dark Lord Day at 3 Floyd’s in Munster, IN. Appearance a coffee brown with a rich tan head. Aroma honestly like smoked malts and meat, like beef jerky. Taste is fantastic, really creamy but crisp at the same time, a bit of roasted and smoked malts, a bit of German lager yeast as well. One of the most complex lagers I’ve had. Very good.

Draft at Stub & Herbs. Poured into a pint glass a dark brown color with a ever so slight head. What head there is collars around the rim of the glass a light tan color. I would have liked more head but it seems the bartender wanted to fill it to the brim! The aroma is actually quite mild with notes of light roast coffee. Medium mouthfeel. I would guess this uses maris otter barley given the appearance and aroma. Medium mouthfeel. Starts off with a very slight dark fruit flavor, a touch nuttiness, and the aforementioned light roast notes. Sweetness sticks around the whole time. Mild bitterness. Some caramel flavors as well as it warms up a touch. VERY easy drinking. Like.

I has this on tap at Local option into a tulip. The beer is dark brown with lots of amber highlights, fairly clear. Not much head or retention to comment on. The aroma is light, bready with roasted malts. The taste is ok nothing special, a light smoke finish that is nice. Easy to drink but not much feel, kinda boring so probably wouldn’t want more than one.

From Notes. On tap at stubs. Pours redish brown, not a lot of head to speak of. Aroma and flavor are of sweet, bready malts. Not much else here to speak of. Very quaffable , but not something I would often reach for

Draft at Binny’s Southloop. Aged on oak? really? okay... Pours a darker but clear mahogany. Chocolaty but hoppy aroma, med coffee roastiness, lightly round, some pine, light touch of acidity. Lightly syrupy, rich, well crafted but fairly straight forward, chocolate cookie. Needs more depth.

On tap at the Bavarian Lodge in Lisle, IL. Aroma:The smell is rather subtle, but I get dark malts, and noble hops. Appearance:This beer is dark brown with very little head. Taste:Dark malts dominate this beer. The foretaste has a lot of chocolate, and also some woody notes. On the mid to aftertaste I get some subtle dark fruit flavors. The aftertaste lingers with a mild lager yeast flavor. Palate:Medium body that’s really smooth. Good carbonation. Overall:I really enjoyed this beer, it’s very drinkable, and goes great with food. I’m not sure it’s exactly spot-on in terms of style though. I think it could have benefited from more complexity.

tap at sheffields. pours a dark copper brown with a small head. notes of creamy pecan, nuts, light toffee, and a hint of coffee. very smooth and easy drinkin. oak is not a prominent feature of the beer. well crafted. tasty sessionable beer. would drink again.
