Continuing our quest to despoil and desecrate conventional beer styles, we’re raiding Trappist traditions to produce this Belgian Style Ale brewed with Rye, Oats and Wheat. Our first beer EVER brewed with Wheat! Belgian yeast creates classic clove-spiced banana aroma and flavor. Dry hopping brings floral and citrus aromatics to the biscuity-smooth malt body.

July 3, 2013 - bottle shared at Joe’s. Orangish brown pour with some head. Belgian yeast, spice, dark and light fruit and maybe some alcohol in the aroma. Taste was consistent with the aroma, like a tripel and quad hybrid. Looking forward to see how this ages.

From the tap at surly. Aroma is banana, white grapes, and pineapple. Flavor is Belgian yeast, pepper, banana, pineapple, and white wine. Very complex beer, love it!! Can’t wait to try this with age.

Bottle shared with ms. hoff. Pour is dark red/brown, some white head. Lots of banana on the nose, cloves as well. Flavor is malts, spice, and rye with the aftertaste of cloves. A little boozy, nothing special. Hoping some age helps this a bit, I bought 112 bottles...

I can’t get enough of surly’s Belgian style beers. this compares very similarly to the blue Chimay.

On tap at BLB pours a dark amber/brown with a small khaki head. Aroma of caramel, with slight clove and yeast. Taste of dark fruits, dates, raisins, has some floral and citrus hops, caramel malts, rye and wheat present, with a touch of Belgian yeast and alcohol. Belgian yeast was subdued which I like, was drinkable for a BSA for me, but I’m pretty indifferent to this none the less.

On tap at Panino Brothers, in a pint glass, dark amber/brown pour. Aroma of wheat, yeast, some dark fruit, raisins, light caramel. Taste is yeasty, some sweet raisin, booze kick, can't wait to try in a year. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

$20? 20? I stood at the checkout desk until 8:05pm (they close at 8). Great artwork. Geometrical/spiritual art approach to SeVIIn. The Aroma is very Belgian, but with a hint of unusual, airy-citrus qualities. I smelled it for at least 2 minutes before drinking. The twist was great. Poured into an appropriate glass, it seemed to have an IPA’ish head: thicker bubbles, etc. Amber, like most Surly’s, a bit lighter. Taste: great. Again, it had a midwestern-American style twist that just seemed to complete the beer so well. A decent Belgian through a proven midwestern looking-glass. Or backwards. Palate: clean, with a creamy rye-ish, citrus taste on finish. Not the highest quality pour, cleanest beer, but...what are you asking for, at that point? Overall: worth the $20. Buy two. Sell one in a few months. No joke.
