COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Continuing our quest to despoil and desecrate conventional beer styles, we’re raiding Trappist traditions to produce this Belgian Style Ale brewed with Rye, Oats and Wheat. Our first beer EVER brewed with Wheat! Belgian yeast creates classic clove-spiced banana aroma and flavor. Dry hopping brings floral and citrus aromatics to the biscuity-smooth malt body.

On tap at the 7th anniversary party. Reddish brown pour with a minimal off-white head. Aroma has a little wheaty funk, but is still dominated by the biscuit and dark fruit malt notes. The flavor verges on cloyingly sweet, with the malt really taking over, but this is tempered nicely at the finish by the brett, which adds some welcome sourness/funk. Good beer, and very easy drinking considering 12.5%. Looking forward to seeing what next year holds for Surly.

Pour out of 750 mL bottle, hazy golden pour with fluffy white head, aroma brought notes of biscuit, cracker, white fruit into sweet white grape, hints of yeasty, doughy notes with a hint of peppery, slight grassy notes. Taste was a mix of grass, pepper, spice into a bit of earth, some sweet cracker, bread, biscuity notes with a hint of white fruit, finishing spicy, sweet, slight booze.

Rien vraiment pour me plaire ici.

Bottle... Pours lightly hazed and Longhorn-orange with a small, creamy, white head. It’s mostly gone in a flash, but not entirely. The aroma offers toffee, pear and a whisper of clove. No banana ester here. Full-bodied with a lightly creamy mouthfeel and busy carbonation. The flavor features sweet toffee and crusty bitterness. Boozy and mildly phenolic. Chest-warming finish. This is one of the better American-brewed Belgian-style beers I’ve tried in a good while. My score indicates that even the best-brewed attempts still make me wish Americans would stop trying to brew dubbels, quads and trippels like Belgians.

Pours deep yellow to amber with a medium off white head. Smell makes me think this will be a cloying thick mouthed beer but the taste is lighter with lemony citrus with begian clove yeast and some alchohol.
