2009 Boulder Strong Ale Festival: Sweet and smoky nose. Big ham flavor. Perhaps some bacon, too. Soft and creamy mouthfeel, with a low carbonation level. Caramel and chocolaty malts. Light smoke and campfire in the finish.

On tap at Boulder Strong Ale Fest poured an opaque dark brown with a lasting brown head. Aromas of smoked meat, carmel and cocoa. Palate was mediuym bodied and smooth. Flavors of smoked beef, cocoa and light vanilla with a smooth lingering smokey finish.

On tap at BSAF. Poured a deep brown/black color witha creamy quarter-inch beige head that faded to a thick layer. Aroma of smoke, light meat, chocolate, roasted malts, and some dark fruit. Smooth, moderately sweet entry with some smoke leads into a sweet chocolaty flavor paired with some roasted malts along with undertones of dark fruit (plum and grape) that leads into a moderately dry, oaky finish with some lingering smoke. Moderate carbonation and nice mouthfeel. I really enjoyed this beer, I wish it was bottled.

Thanks to Beerlando for bringing this growler. Aroma is fairly light, reminds me of smoked ham. Flavor is lightly smoked with a little more coffee and/or chocolate in there. Very good.

Muddy dark brown. Lightly smokey nose with some chocolatey/fudgey overtones. Soft body. Fudgey on the palate, with a slight smoke finish.

Shared by beerlando @ Redlight. Nice black liquid with little head. Rich, intensely smoked aroma a la Schlenkerla urbock. Smooth mouthfeel. Slightly thin in finish but in a good way, cleansing the palate and creating desire for more. Excellent smokey goodness. Delicious peat-like smokey character and a simple enough flavor profile to please even those who donít like rauchbier.

UPDATED: APR 27, 2012 TAP at the Blue Nile (Minneapolis, MN) on 2.14.09. Pours a dark brown, not as smoky as some (like Left Hand Smoke Jumper). Smells/tastes like campfire with some beef jerky. Excellent.

Growler thanks to Beerlando. Dark brown pour. Smokey malts, not nearly as smokey as Iíd expect it to be. Tastes like a sweet, smoked ham. Very cool smooth feel to it. Quality meat.....quality beverage.

Growler courtesy Beerlando. Pours a dark brown color with a black center with a small tan head that leaves some spotty lacing behind. The aroma is nice and shows a good amount of smoked malts and peat with some chocolate and coffee undertones. The flavor is again very chocolaty with some skorched caramel and oaky vanilla adding depth and flavor. The smoked peat and smokey meat are noticeable as well. Dark fruits come through as it warms up and really balances out the smokiness nicely. Medium bodied and very silky mouthfeel with good carbonation adds up to a smooth drinker. Very solid brew and one I am glad I got to try. Thanks Brian.
