Thanks to largadeer for opening this at the post-post-RS party tasting. Reviewed from notes. Poured into a taster glass.

A - Pours black with a very tiny mocha colored head leaving no lacing at all down the glass.

S - Good amount of roasted malts up front but the smoke is not far behind. Some nice chocolate and vanilla sweetness comes thru as the smokey darkness begins to let up. Just o.k. really.

T - Plenty of dark roasted malts in this one. A nice mix of chocolate and coffee flavors starts to break thru once the smokey malt dies down a bit. The smoke is quite pronounced as you might expect and never really leaves the party. Not too bad but nothing mind blowing here.

M - Medium-Heavy body and flavors with moderately low carbonation. A bit light in the feel with tons of lingering smokey dark roast in the finish.

D - Decent stuff. I enjoy porters quite a bit but this one was just too smokey to really enjoy. I could drink one of these but that is about it.

Aroma is bacon, hickory, and smoke, with dark malts and alcohol. Smells very clean and slightly sweet. Pour is absolutely black with no head. Taste is intensely smoked, sweet, lots of the typical baltic porter- chocolate, cocoa, light to moderate bitterness, and slight alcohol. Finish is slightly sweet, smoky bacon, and low bitterness. Good, if a little too sweet.

On tap at Sheffield’s and served in a goblet. This beer poured a dark brown with some mahogany highlights and a short-lived tan head. Minimal lacing. The aroma of the beer was made up of light smoke, charred malts, and light chocolate. The flavor included peat, light smoke, mildly sweet dark fruits, and some chocolate. The mouthfeel was medium-bodied with minimal carbonation and slightly sticky. A really nice beer. Surly continues to impress.

Near black with thick foamy brown head. Aroma- touch of smoke along with some slight fruitiness. Taste - sweet malt with caramel, brown sugar, roasted malt and cream. Prominent but not overpowering smoked malt. Nice smoked lager. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

[Tap] Had this a few times, at the brewery and at Stub ’n Herb’s. Pours a pitch black with a small, creamy tan head. Aroma is smoky and meaty, a touch of chocolate and some underlying roasted malts. Flavor is big and beefy, lots of smoke, chocolate, coffee, and light fruity flavors.

Rich and creamy, with a strong smokey nose of bacon fat and pepperoni. Sweet black fruits fill out the palate and add contrast along with a candy sugar edge over the malty roasted cocoa underbelly, with complex smoked meat nuances lingering. Layered and multi-dimensional.

Cup at Darkness Day. Dark brown color with a tan head that lasts only a few seconds. Aroma was of toasted malt, chocolate, tasty smoked ham, wood, and a little hint of toffee. Taste was of malt, chocolate, and wood all balanced by smoked flavors making it all taste very earthy. Would go perfect with barbeque.

Pour from growler shared by Beerlando at Redlight Redlight. Wow. Aroma was fire and peat! Flavor was a bit like a smoked honey ham drizzled with chocolate.... Very unique on my tongue. Cant decide yet if I am a fan!
