Thanks to nbutler! Dark brown pour, nice tan head. Light bacon, chocolate, roasted malt, prunes and some toffee in the aroma. Flavor has some smoke, but not overly insane amount. Good chocolate and roasted malt too. Very well done beer. One of my favorite smoked beers to date.

Bottle. Cocoa malt and light smoke aroma. Dark brown with small head. Sweet smoky chocolate malt flavor with a lightly bitter herbal hops finish. Not bad but expected more flavor from a Baltic porter.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle… Pours a murky dark brown with a small, creamy, off-white head. The bouquet is of dark chocolate, espresso and charcoal with a somewhat reserved campfire-smoke component. Full-bodied and silky with soft carbonation. Sweet, nutty, chocolaty, light smoke flavor with a splash of deep roast coffee. Sweet mocha finish with a rumor of smoke at the wee end.

2000 bottle thanks to Tim. Pours a cloudy amber with small beige head that diminishes to nothing. The aroma is strong smoke, pepper, and wood. Thin mouth, light malt, very strong smoke and pepper with lingering dryness, very good.

Bottle @ Granny’s house in Exira, Iowa. Deep brown appearance with a dark brown head. Huge smoky nose as soon as you open the bottle. Burnt dark malts in nose also. Dark, burnt, roasted, smoky, malty flavor. Fairly easy drinking while still having the smoked, charred tasted. Slight oak flavor also. Good.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
"An aggressively sour ale. Light in body, prickly. Berries, vinegar and oak are the main players in both aroma and flavor. Some lemony funk in the flavor as well. Really nice brew."

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle thanks to Ben! Pours black with a grayish white head that dissipates quickly to the edges. Aroma is quite smokey with a bit of bacon and ham as well as a strong roasted malt note. Flavor is full of smoke with plenty of roasted malt and a hint of coffee coming in the finish. Surprisingly smooth.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: MAR 12, 2012 750mL courtesy of beeranddogs. Pour is clear, deep, cola brown looking deep cola brown in the glass with highlights. Really no head- some cola fizziness erupts and settles down wickedly fast. No retention. No lace. Aroma is not even smoky: instead there is something medicinal, black cherry soda, cherry juice box, a touch of briney Kalamata olives. As it warms a hint of smokiness comes through but is layered atop some alcohol notes. Taste is bit like burnt plastic, cola sweetness coming in for the rescue but only succeeding in making the beer taste like flat vanilla cherry Coke. Palate is fizzy, fairly thin. 12/12/2010 7/3/6/3/13=3.2
Tap at CK. Deep pour with a thinner tan head. Deep clear black ruby. Rich, smoked meat nose with heavy bacon. Aecht Schlenkerla style. Taste is thinner, lemon tart, nicely roasty. Thinner mouthfeel like a schwarzbier. Just a little bit too much tobacco and dirt and less oily bacon fat. Still quite nice.

This is smokey, really smokey in the mouth, you imagine fumes coming out of your ears and nostrils. Some smoked fish, wood smoke, really lovely. A8 A3 T7 P4 Ov15 3.7
