3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Tap at Mikkeller & Friends. Deep reddish hazy brown with a small, creamy, beige head. Nose is more smooth burned than roasted, smooth, sweet and caramel malty with a soft smokey note. Sweet, ashy, chocolately, light citrussy taste, low carbonation. Not much intensity going on. Nothing to match the initial sweetness of the dark makts. Still not impressed by the skills of Surly. But a nice smokey nose, none the less.

2.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Had on tap at the "Power of the Pint" party. Smells like a campfire, super heavy smoke and rich malt. Taste is similar, just way too much smoke. A complex beer that I am sure will get better with age. Just too much smoke fresh.

Go surly band wagon... I believe i’ve had a majority of their didn’t beers, but I think my favorite is pentagram and even that is sub par. This tastes like a bonfire threw up in your mouth, and not in a good way. I’ve tried this twice and right the same thing, not worth the money.

Bottle at BCTC. Dark brown to black. No head. Smells like a campfire. Taste is sweet and charred oak. Peppers and more burnt wood. Not much balance to this as well. i’m getting some pecans on the back end. Very chewy and peetie

2.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 6/20
Black with no head. Super smokey aroma with some malt. Taste is sweet with tons of smoke. Something about the combination of sweetness with smoke really disgusted me. If the beer was drier I would have totally dug the smoke flavor but with this weird sweetness I can’t take it.

At Avery’s 2012 Strong Ale Fest. Black with a small tan head. Aroma is super smoky, lots of smoke, burnt wood, charcoal char...like campfire. Flavor is smooth, but same as nose. Burnt wood, char, smoke. Smokey sweetness, and a big body. Just too smoky for me.

I very much wanted to like this beer. Poored dark, overwhelming smell of the smoke. I thought the smoke flavor overpowered the beer. I also didn’t care for a GI Nightstalker, maybe baltic porters aren’t for me..

1.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 1/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 1/20
There is nothing wrong with the appearance or aroma, but this could be the most disgusting beer ever made. At a beer tasting, 9 out of 10 tasters considered this beer the worst beer ever made. The only discussion over this beer was what purpose it could serve. Possible solutions are beer batter, base for BBQ sauce, or marinade.
