3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
750ml bottle with orange wax.
Pours a deep, clear orange with a small soapy beige head that recedes slowly and leaves some sticky legs and lacing on the sides.
Aroma is boozy as hell with lots of alcohol, vanilla, and oak. Sweetness dominates the nose in the form of heavily caramelized sugar and booze-soaked light fruits, apricots and pears. Hints of citrus as well, oranges especially, though it’s definitely hidden behind the alcohol and sugary sweetness.
Whoa, and I thought the aroma was heavy. The taste is oaky tannins, molasses, orange zest and straight up alcohol, which just completely burns the throat after each sip. Apricots and pears are still there but the spiciness and boozy burn are the dominant components.
Mouthfeel is heavy and massively sweet and alcoholic. Decent carbonation keeps it from getting completely out of hand.
This is a serious beer and one to be shared as the booze, in my opinion, is not hidden at all. I would peg it pretty close to 15%. Not my favorite from Surly, but, hey, that’s a high bar.

Goodbye world, drinking this after 2 pub stops and a few other beers at home, big thick body which I thoroughly enjoy, massively orange and virgin wood taste rocks good amount of heat in the finish but not unpleasantly so. Good hearty beer.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Poured from the limited one time release bottle. Nearly 2 years after available (on 06/22/14).
Pours a cloudy orange with a off white white head that diminishes quickly.
Aroma is of floral hops, alcohol and bright refreshing characteristics. Similar to an IPA on a hot day.
Taste is boozy with honey, bread and slight caramel. This isn’t a bad thing as it is still sweet up front with a slight hops bitterness lingering.
Palette is average. Nothing note worthy. Just sharp and awakening.
Overall. Incredible. I will continue to search for more bottles. Probably the best beer to come from Surly except for Darkness.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle, thnx to Summer Santa. Cheers. Pours a clear orange beer with a small white head on top. Aroma is very strong, oranges, Belgian yeast, red fruits, booze. Flavor is very strong, lots of alcohol and oranges with some apples in the background. Very fruity, loads of yeast and booze. A bit unbalanced and it has a strong alcoholic burn in the finish. Very full, complex but a bit messy. Nice, but tad too old I guess.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Draft at MacKenzie. Pours a crystal clear amber color with a white head and some lacing. Aroma is fruity, peach, plum, acetone. Medium to heavy on the palate with creamy carbonation. Flavor is sweet, boozy, a little oak, vanilla, caramel malt, some bread, maybe some dark fruit, raisin, some grass, with a weird, boozy, fruity finish. Not Surly’s best effort.
