3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
750ml bottle with orange wax.
Pours a deep, clear orange with a small soapy beige head that recedes slowly and leaves some sticky legs and lacing on the sides.
Aroma is boozy as hell with lots of alcohol, vanilla, and oak. Sweetness dominates the nose in the form of heavily caramelized sugar and booze-soaked light fruits, apricots and pears. Hints of citrus as well, oranges especially, though itís definitely hidden behind the alcohol and sugary sweetness.
Whoa, and I thought the aroma was heavy. The taste is oaky tannins, molasses, orange zest and straight up alcohol, which just completely burns the throat after each sip. Apricots and pears are still there but the spiciness and boozy burn are the dominant components.
Mouthfeel is heavy and massively sweet and alcoholic. Decent carbonation keeps it from getting completely out of hand.
This is a serious beer and one to be shared as the booze, in my opinion, is not hidden at all. I would peg it pretty close to 15%. Not my favorite from Surly, but, hey, thatís a high bar.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle 75 cl. Pours an almost clear amber with a white head. Aroma is dominated by honey and BOOZE - tons of booze. Not overly heavy in body, again honeyish, some vanilla and a slight tartness. But again, this is really all about the booze and nothing much more. Not overly refined. 291013

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at 2013 GTMW, since this was at the GTMW I specifically asked for a small pour of this, but in typical Surly fashion they filled the entire glass up, most ended up on the ground, for mostly my sake, pours a clear brown with an off white head, holy smokes this thing is boozy, a nice touch of fruit but most of the nose is all heat, the flavor is really sweet on the front end with a ton of alcohol in the finish, really intense, glad I didnít finish my entire sample or else I wouldnít have lasted the rest of the festival.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle:   Amberish, fiery, moderate sudsy off-white head, spotty lacing.   Strong bready/honey like nose, slight tartness along with noticeable alcohol.   Very tart on the tongue, almost sour.   Strong honey like
pale breadiness.   An odd beer, like a Strong Golden crossed with some sort of Sour.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate, albeit a bit full because of simply trying to choke this down.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate to full,
but I am not sure if thats good in this case.   Finishes like a very rich honey Strong Golden, with a sour tinge on the backside.   This was a really weird one.   As if a Strong Golden needed to be any bigger, this one seems
like an Imperial Strong Golden or something.   A little tough, even though its almost a year since its been bottled.   Interesting, but an ass kicker for sure and hard to finish by ones self.   Thankfully I had help!
Thanks to Skyiview for the bottle!

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap @ Copenhagen Beer Celebration 2013. A dark golden clear one, a little bit of sidesticking off-white head thatís sticking to the sides. Itís quite strong and somewhat alcoholic sweet on the nose , lots of ripe fruits, some paint and traces of something oily acidic. Really sticky and thick on the mouthfeel and soft prickling on the carbonation. Big flavors. Lots of sweetness, fruits, glazed dried sweet fruits that is, apricots, papaya and honey melon. Really stingy warm and slightly boozy finish. That sticks around for a while as well. 04.05.2013
