4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: OCT 24, 2010 Lemony, flowery, and hoppy bouquet. Wet is a light-honey color and pours with a lacy white head that dissipates quickly. Heavy bitterness and medium sweetness, this IPA is matched with complex flavors of bold, piney hops, lemon, and light maltiness. Bitterness is left on your tongue, causing you to have another tasty sip...soon you will be all out. Itís a shame this is so hard to get a-hold of. I got my 4 pack of 16 oz cans from Blue Max in Burnsville (~$16). Thanks Blue Max!

3.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Extremely good aroma--fresh, floral, really engaging--but the rest of it was very pedestrian. Moderate hop finish, not particularly resinous, rather light in color and not very penetrating in its flavors. O.k. but nothing more. (On tap, Common Roots Cafe, Minneapolis).

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Meh. An over-hyped brew/experiment. The results suggest that hops shipped directly from the fields on the west coast and dumped in a brew-kettle is more gimmick than substance....
I love Surly, but regret their slip back into the juvenilia of brewing and brew naming with "Wet", an ill conceived and unbalanced brew. I wish that micro brewers were beyond the foibles of ordinary mortals. I want them to have the inventiveness of 25-year-olds and the wisdom of 55-year-olds. Guess that will happen when the low-cal, low-fat ham and cheese omelet hits the market.
Pour is crystal-clear orange-yellow with a medium-coarse foam head. Nose is all hops with only the slightest hints of malt to balance. Mouth-feel is about the same as the flagship Furious with a fairly brutal hop bite, but no offsetting sweet malt viscosity to offset. Finish is a bitter dryness that just doesnít sit very well.
After seeing the 4+ ratings that this beer was getting, I waited until the third day and the third can of this one to rate it, and I just canít justify anything more than my 3.3. It just ainít there, guys. And for $16/ four-packs - The rest of mine are trade bait and nothing more.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Canned on 10/11/10, drank on 10/15/10. Look do you want a long description here? Itís hoppy. Intensely floral, Resin, citrus, you name it, itís in here - The Bride even commented that she smelled cat pee, but found it oddly appealing in this context. Awesome stuff. Sampled at the 2010 pre-brewers jam tasting.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Rate #200. Suck it Atom! From a can dated 10/11/10. Color is clear light amber or orange-like. Small white head with nice retention. Light floral aroma with some citrus and maltiness in the background. Flavor is pine with citrus coming towards the finish giving this a nice bitter, dry finish. Some caramel in there as well. Nice balance to this, with the bitterness not overpowering anything. This beer totally outclasses abrasive if you ask me.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: OCT 13, 2011 Can to snifter. Pours a bright clear amber orange with a quick frothy white head. Aroma is like having grapefruit squeezed in your face along with cutting your spruce trees in your front yard. Taste is resinous pine and grapefruit with lots of florals and citrus. Palate is slick and sticky and finishes dry. This is another outstanding IPA by surly! Very fresh!

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
[Can], canned yesterday. Pours a beautiful clear amber with a medium-large, very sticky khaki head of fine bubbles. Aroma is not as pungent as I was expecting, but contains grassy, and fresh floral and citrus notes. Thereís a little bit of resin, some malt backbone, and surprisingly a bit of yeast character as well. The flavor is a hair thinner than I was expecting. I am surprised as this is a whole lot more balanced an offering from Surly than I was expecting, but that is not in any way disappointing. Itís just a great IPA that emphasizes the role of the super fresh hops. Itís not in-your-face, itís got a good malt balance, creamy mouthfeel, not sweet at all but no harsh bitterness. Well done. Now lets see a double version.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Can. Canned on 10/11/09, 1 day later into my pint glass. Pours a fellow/orange tinged golden color with a 1 finger white fluffy head that laces as it settles. Strong floral and citrus aromas wafting from my glass. Medium/light mouthfeel. The taste is minimally sweet with a huge hop profile kicking in. Bitter citrus rind and some florals linger on. Good carbonation. Pretty easy drinking.

4.4 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
I got the message that Wet was being canned and shipped, literally drove to the store after work, picked up a 4 pack (this was 10-12-10) Look at the bottom of the can and it says "Canned 10-11-10 Get Wet!"
Canít get much fresher than that.. And that is exactly how it tastes, very fresh with almost dripping aromaís of potent hops that is sure to bite. A good golden color with minimal head, but maybe that was because I couldnít help but to suck off at least half and almost chew the light, grassy flavor. Carbonated just enough, you can smell this beer from feet away it seems.
I was looking forward to this beer from Surly for a while and will say they did not dissapoint. A double IPA that is sure to please, but you better go as the can says, buy some and invite your friends over NOW, because a beer this fresh should be enjoyed AFAP.. as fresh as possible.
